Jimlín brings together castle history, painted Baroque ceilings and several chapels, with a route through the surrounding area. Nový Hrad is the main attraction: two permanent tour routes take visitors through different parts of the complex. The area also holds traces of local history, and the Pravda Castle ruins lie in Džbán Nature Park.

Nový Hrad: History and Features

Nový Hrad originated as a stone, palace-like stronghold built by the knight Záviš of Jimlín above Jimlín in the 14th century. One especially distinctive feature of the complex is its collection of eleven painted Baroque plank ceilings. The ceilings were restored between 2007 and 2013. In front of Nový Hrad, a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on an ornate pedestal.

Two Tour Routes

Nový Hrad offers two permanent tour routes that explore different parts of the castle. The tour of the upper floors includes the Chapel of Saint Joseph. The tour through the lower areas and cellars also takes visitors into the wine and beer cellars of the original castle. Your choice therefore depends on which rooms interest you most: the upper area with the chapel, or the cellars of the old castle. Advance booking is recommended for larger groups and to arrange a specific tour time.

Nový Hrad hosts numerous cultural and social events. If a particular event is the reason for your trip, check its date in advance. This lets you plan around the specific event date, while the tours offer a separate way to explore the rooms and history of the complex.

Chapels in Jimlín

The chapels also offer a glimpse into local history. A chapel in Jimlín was established in 1853–1854 on a small hill in the village. The new chapel was consecrated on 10 May 1857. The Chapel of Saint Joseph is among the rooms visited on the upper-floor tour at Nový Hrad.

East of Jimlín, a large niche chapel stands near Nový Hrad at a crossroads of farm tracks. From there, the tracks lead towards Zeměchy or the local cemetery. Jimlín railway station and the Jimlín/Zeměchy bus stop are options for visiting the chapel in Jimlín. If you plan to travel by public transport, check the timetable before setting out.

Routes and Landscape in the Surrounding Area

Near Jimlín, the ruins of Pravda Castle lie on a wooded spur above Pnětluky in Džbán Nature Park. The Louny–Jimlín–Pravda (Pnětluky) route passes through Jimlín and then continues via Opočno, Hřivice and Konětopy to the turn-off below Pravda. The wooded setting above Pnětluky describes the surroundings of the Pravda Castle ruins.
