Libotenice offers several distinct reasons to visit: a gallery of decorated Easter eggs, historic religious buildings, seasonal exhibitions and the alternative Route 2A of the Elbe Cycle Route. There is also a trampers’ settlement dating from 1962 and a harbour with moorings and a floating landing stage. If you are looking for a hotel in Libotenice, it helps to decide on your main interest first: traditional crafts, local history, cycling and harbour facilities appeal to different visitors.

Easter Egg Art and Local History

The gallery of decorated Easter eggs is open year-round. It displays more than 1,200 Easter eggs made using traditional techniques. For travellers interested in traditional crafts, both the size of the collection and the traditional methods of production may be a particular draw. Visits can be arranged by email or telephone. If you want to include the gallery as a fixed part of your itinerary, check available times before you arrive.

The Asociace malířek a malířů kraslic České republiky (Association of Egg Painters of the Czech Republic) has been based in Libotenice since 1998. This gives egg painting an institutional presence in the village as well as a place in the gallery. The traditional trampers’ settlement Žíznivá osada was established in Libotenice in 1962, adding a distinct historical feature.

Chapel, Church and Seasonal Exhibitions

The Chapel of Saint Isidore stands in the centre of Libotenice and was built in 1786. The present-day Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, by contrast, is located north of the village, away from the centre; it was consecrated on 19 August 1703. These dates do not refer to two construction dates: 1786 is when the chapel was built, while 1703 is the consecration date of the present-day church.

The municipality holds seasonal exhibitions in the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Since the programme is seasonal and may change, check the exhibition dates for the period you wish to visit. Services are held regularly in the Chapel of Saint Isidore, and their times may also change. If you would like to attend a service, check the current schedule.

Elbe Cycle Route and Harbour

The alternative Route 2A of the Elbe Cycle Route passes through Libotenice. Route conditions and signage may change, so check the current route before setting off.

The harbour in Libotenice has a floating landing stage for vessels up to 55 Ă— 8.2 metres, as well as for small watercraft with a maximum overall length of 20 metres. There are also eight angled moorings at a floating pontoon. To interpret the measurements correctly: 55 Ă— 8.2 metres applies to the vessels, the 20-metre limit applies to the overall length of small watercraft, and the eight angled moorings are a separate figure. For specific plans, check the current information about the facility and moorings.
