Lkáň can be understood in terms of its location on the Rosovka, its local history and its cycling routes. Different points of reference can help with planning a trip: a cycling junction with directions to Házmburk Castle and a circular route with a stated distance and difficulty level.

Landscape along the Rosovka stream

Lkáň stretches along both banks of the Rosovka stream in the Klapská pahorkatina, on the southern edge of the České středohoří. Two ponds lie close to the Rosovka in the built-up area. Historically, agriculture and fruit growing benefited from the location, microclimate and fertile soil. This brings together different aspects of the landscape: the stream and ponds as local features, and the hilly terrain as the regional setting. The area’s former use adds an economic history perspective to this geographical context.

Cycling routes and trip planning

Lkáň lies at the junction of cycling routes 3118 and 3119, which lead to the popular Házmburk Castle. The “Lovosice–Házmburk–Lovosice” circular cycling route also passes through the village; it is about 50 km long and moderately difficult. These details offer different points of reference: the route numbers and named castle indicate a destination, while the distance and difficulty level provide more information about the circular route. Check current route conditions before setting out.

Local history and events

Lkáň was first mentioned in 1237 in a document issued by King Wenceslaus I. In the 14th century, the village passed into the possession of the noble Zajíc family, who lived at nearby Hazmburk Castle; Lkáň was attached to the Libochovice estate. This sequence distinguishes the early written mention from later ownership. The castle and estate represent two different historical connections: Hazmburk is associated with the Zajíc family, while Libochovice is linked to Lkáň’s administrative affiliation.

Traditional events include a witches’ festival, May celebrations, Easter celebrations, a masked carnival, a kite festival, a Three Kings collection and Christmas celebrations. These include both a named monument and a variety of customary events. If you plan to visit for a celebration, check the dates and public access locally. Easter and Christmas celebrations take place at different times of year.
