Čachotín can be viewed from several perspectives: the Church of St. Lawrence and its bell tower represent architectural history, while the memorial tree “Buk v Boučí” and the village’s highest point connect it to the landscape. The Vavřinecká pouť also offers a traditional annual event. You can weigh up whether architecture, protected nature, hiking or a recurring festival should shape your trip.

St. Lawrence and the Village Square

The Church of St. Lawrence is Čachotín’s most important monument. In 1964, the state designated the church and bell tower as cultural monuments. Its design is Baroque with folk elements, while the church also has Gothic foundations. Inside is the tomb of the barons Bechyně of Lažany, dating from 1833. Architectural features and a specifically dated detail in the church interior thus stand side by side.

The layout around the village square is also part of the village’s character. Čachotín has preserved the square’s original village buildings, with the church at its center. So the focus is not just the design of an individual monument, but also the traditional spatial arrangement of the square. Both perspectives help make sense of the village: the specific building and its place within the preserved buildings around the square.

The Freestanding Bell Tower

A freestanding, multi-storey bell tower stands east of the church. It was built around the middle of the 19th century in the Neo-Romanesque style. Its pyramidal roof has a dormer for the clock. Unlike a tower incorporated into a church, it is a separate building, so its location and form can be considered independently of the church.

The dates refer to different things: 1833 for the tomb, around the middle of the 19th century for the construction of the bell tower, and 1964 for the designation of the church and tower as cultural monuments. This keeps the interior detail, construction period and protected status clearly distinct in time.

Memorial Tree and Landscape

The “Buk v Boučí,” designated as a protected memorial tree, was first given this designation on 1 January 1989. Its age is estimated at around 350 years, and its trunk circumference is 7.1 metres. The estimated age provides an approximate historical context, while the circumference is a specific measure of the trunk. The tree is notable both for its designation date and for these details about its physical size.

At 595 metres above sea level, Mount Remonštangle is the highest point in Čachotín. A green-marked hiking trail runs between Zálesí and Lysá via the memorial site with the protected “Buk v Boučí” tree. The high point and the route offer different ways to explore the landscape: one marks the village’s highest spot, while the other is a marked trail connection. If you plan to follow the route, check local trail conditions before setting out.

A Traditional August Event

The traditional Vavřinecká pouť in Čachotín takes place on the second Sunday in August. The celebration includes entertainment on an outdoor dance floor. If you would like to plan your trip around this recurring event, check the dates for the year you have in mind. This lets you consider the festival as a reason to visit in its own right, alongside the architecture and landscape.
