Dolni Krupa brings together several cultural and historical highlights that show different sides of the place. The church grounds include the protected Church of St Vitus (“kostel sv. Víta”); the cemetery chapel adds another local landmark. At Zámek Dolní Krupá Castle, the history of the castle, the local history museum and a ceiling fresco come together. Ronovec adds preserved medieval structural elements to these themes. Finds from the castle ruins are on display in the local history museum. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between sacred architecture, the museum and castle remains.

Church Grounds and Chapels

The Church of St Vitus (“kostel sv. Víta”) in Dolni Krupa is protected as a cultural monument. Its visitor centre offers information materials, a place to rest, and toilets with a washroom. The church grounds therefore combine the protected building with practical facilities for visitors.

The church grounds also include the unusual burial chapel of St Michael. The cemetery chapel is another distinct landmark: it was completed in 1898 and dedicated to the Holy Cross of Jesus. Its altar was made by the sons of Petr Bůšek from Sychov. The different dedications and the altar work give each chapel its own historical significance.

Castle History and Local History Museum

Sometime after 1651, Jan Mencel z Bernfelsu converted Zámek Dolní Krupá Castle from an older fortress. The castle hall features the ceiling fresco “Hold národů císařovně Marii Terezii”. The conversion connects the fortress’s earlier history with the castle’s later form; the fresco is a specific decorative feature of the hall.

The castle is also home to the local history museum. It mainly displays archaeological finds from the nearby ruins of Ronovec Castle. Check the current opening arrangements before visiting the museum.

The local history museum in Dolni Krupa opened in 1957. Earlier, Josef ÄŚapek had found a ceramic fragment from a 13th-century vessel near the spruce below Ronovec that is now protected. These archaeological connections serve different purposes: the fragment was found before the museum opened, while the collection mainly displays finds from Ronovec.

Ronovec: Ruins and Preserved Structures

Ronovec was an early Gothic castle and is now a ruin between Dolni Krupa, Břevnice and Kojetín. Parts of the palace, the defensive walls and a watchtower have survived, along with fragments of a former well and parts of a nearby mill. The palace was a castle’s main residential building. Together with the walls and watchtower, it shows the structural features of the site; the remains of the well and mill add other elements and a sense of the surrounding area.

The ruin can be reached via a yellow-marked hiking trail. Check local route information before travelling. Unlike the local history museum, which focuses on archaeological finds, Ronovec is about the surviving parts of the castle complex.
