Lány lies at the foot of the Železné hory and has varied terrain. If you are looking for a hotel in Lány, the landscape, trails and village center can offer different points of reference when planning your trip. This lets you focus your stay on specific themes: the surrounding landscape, hiking routes or the village setting.

Lány in the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area

The entire municipality of Lány lies within the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. The cadastral area of Lány u Libice nad Doubravou lies predominantly in Zones II and III of this protected area. In the southern part, west of Suchá, the Hradiště locality reaches into Zone I at its edge. The municipal area and cadastral area refer to different scales: the protected-area designation covers all of Lány, while the zoning gives a more precise picture of how the cadastral area is divided.

Lány and Suchá lie predominantly in Zone II. Here, natural features and human structures are in balance; ecological and aesthetic value is also high, and natural conditions are favorable for recreation. Together with the varied terrain and its location at the foot of the Železné hory, this creates a multifaceted landscape setting. If you also choose a destination for its landscape character, these features offer a specific point of reference.

Hiking: Trails through and to Lány

There are different walking routes to help you find your way. The hiking circuit through the Doubravské údolí passes through Lány. A description published for the KČT excursion program for 2025 also lists the route “Route 1 – across the highest peaks of the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area”: the green-marked trail runs from Libice nad Doubravou to Lány and leaves the settlement after about 100 meters.

The two references answer different planning questions: the circuit identifies Lány as a place along the way; the KČT description also specifies the route from Libice nad Doubravou and the short stretch within the settlement. The approximate 100-meter figure does not indicate the total route length. If you are following the KČT description, check the current route before setting out.

Cycling Route Starting and Ending in Libice nad Doubravou

A total distance is given for cycling: the “S Doubravkou Železnými horami: geocyklotrasou za pamětí stromových velikánů” cycling route is 38 kilometers long and starts and ends in Libice nad Doubravou. This differs significantly from the short stretch that the KČT description gives within Lány: here the stated length is for the entire cycling route, while the other reference describes the trail through the settlement. So when choosing between these route options, both the type of route and the scale of the distance given are important.

Bell Tower, Stone Cross and Memorial Tree

In the center of Lány are a wooden bell tower and a stone cross dating from 1897. Each gives the village setting a different character: the bell tower makes an impression through its wood and design, while the cross also has a specific date. Together, they provide two distinctive landmarks in the village center, without implying an events program or visitor access.

At the southern edge of the settlement is the tree “Lípa v Lánech,” designated as a memorial tree. It is about 25 meters tall. The locations also differ: the bell tower and cross are in the center of Lány, while the memorial tree is at the southern edge of the settlement. If you are weighing village sights against landscape attractions while looking for hotels in Lány, these specific features give the destination a clear, tangible character.
