Naloučany lies on the left bank of the Oslava. You can explore the town through the history of the Church of St. James and its marked routes. These offer different perspectives for planning a trip: architectural history and church tradition on the one hand, and connections on foot and by bike on the other. The details range from the church’s original function to routes with clearly distinct characteristics.

The Church of St. James and Its History

The Church of St. James dates from the 13th century. It was originally a filial church; since the 16th century, it has been a parish church. Its age and its ecclesiastical role thus belong to different periods in its history. The tower also has its own timeline: it burned down in the fire of 1850. It was not rebuilt to its original height after the fire; in 1903, it was modified and roofed. The fire and the later work are two distinct turning points in the building’s history.

The Cross Stone and the Pilgrimage

A second cross stone is built into the retaining wall of the garden at house no. 1. This specific location adds an architectural detail to the church’s history: the focus here is a stone incorporated into a wall. The pilgrimage took place in 2017, 2018 and 2019, and annually from 2021 to 2026; the individual dates vary. If you would like to plan your visit around the pilgrimage, check the date for the year you have in mind. The church, the cross stone and the pilgrimage offer different historical points of interest: a building, a stone detail and a recurring occasion.

Hiking Trail and Cycling Routes

A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Naloučany and connects Tasov with Náměšť nad Oslavou. Two differently routed cycling routes are also worth noting. The marked Mlynářská Cycle Route No. 5109 passes through Naloučany and around the Naloučanský mill. Cycle Route 5209 runs from Naloučany across the Oslava and uphill. The cycling routes therefore differ in their respective points of interest: the Naloučanský mill features along Route 5109, while the river crossing and climb are the distinctive features of Route 5209. The Oslava plays two different roles here: it shapes Naloučany’s position on the left bank and is crossed by Route 5209. Check current route conditions before setting out on a cycling trip; routes and signage may change.

Choose Your Stay Based on Your Interests

If you are considering Naloučany as a destination for a stay, you can weigh its attractions according to the purpose of your trip. The church, its tower’s history and the cross stone form a cultural and historical focus; for time on foot or by bike, the routes described here offer different points of reference. When choosing a hotel, this is a practical starting question: should the architectural history or a particular type of route shape your stay? As you plan, you can then distinguish between the hiking connection and the different features of the two cycling routes.
