Přibyslav: Culture, History and Routes
Accommodation in Přibyslav
A trip to Přibyslav can be planned around architectural history, museums or routes. Different conditions apply to visits: the Gothic tower is regularly open in summer, Štola pod farou only during the September festivities, and the parish church outside service times by prior arrangement. Check access arrangements before planning your visit.
Architectural History and Special Opening Times
Přibyslav Castle is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The Gothic tower of Přibyslav has its own history: construction began in 1497, after the original tower was badly damaged during the Hussite siege. Its massive walls suggest that it was built as a defensive tower. The tower is regularly open to visitors from early July to late August; check this seasonal opportunity before your trip.
The foundation stone of the Church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist was laid on 1 April 1750. It was completed three years later and solemnly consecrated on 24 July 1753. Outside service times, the church is open to the public by prior arrangement. If you would like to see the interior, arrange your visit in advance.
Štola pod farou is a medieval tunnel approximately 80 metres long. Including its branches, it extends to about 118 metres. It is accessible only during the Přibyslav festivities in September. Plan a visit for that period and confirm the dates before arranging your trip around it.
Museums and Exhibitions
The idea for the Městské muzeum Přibyslav took shape towards the end of the 19th century. About 1,200 items were assembled in a relatively short time for an early museum collection, including traditional costumes, tools, weapons, ceramic vessels, coins, old books and other documents.
The Hasičské muzeum Přibyslav devotes its permanent exhibition across 15 halls to the history of fire protection. Topics include early firefighting methods, the development of fire brigades since the mid-19th century, fire brigade uniforms, and historical and modern equipment. One hall covers cooperation among CTIF countries and displays fire brigade uniforms from various countries. The regional exhibition Přibyslavsko, also known as Žižkova síň, presents archaeology, replicas of Hussite weapons, traditional costumes and everyday objects. If a particular exhibition is a deciding factor for your visit, check its current status in advance.
Since 2005, the town museum and tourist information centre have been located in Starý ženský špitál. As institutional use can change, it is advisable to check before visiting whether both are still based there.
Rail, Cycling and Walking Routes
Přibyslav station is on railway line No. 250 between Brno and Havlíčkův Brod. This line information helps identify the rail connection; check the timetables separately for your specific travel dates. The Přibyslav–Sázava cycle path follows a former railway line and starts right at the station. It is nine kilometres long and has no significant climbs. Its length and the described profile offer specific reference points for planning a cycling trip. The K.-H.-Borovský Trail, one of the well-marked walking routes in the area around Přibyslav, is a different route. As trail conditions can change, check the route locally.
