Rozsochatec: Castle History and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Rozsochatec
Rozsochatec can be explored through its historical landmarks and marked hiking trails. The area around the castle grounds is also home to old trees, so cultural monuments and natural features offer different points of interest for your trip. This overview can help you plan your stay: you can decide whether history, landscapes or a hiking route is particularly important to your trip.
Old Trees and a Monument by the Castle Pond
Two yew shrubs in the castle park are estimated to be 900 to 1,000 years old. North of the castle grounds stand two free-growing small-leaved lime trees, estimated to be about four centuries old. The ages given for both groups of trees are estimates, but the periods stated differ considerably. There is also a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1714, on the dam of the castle pond. Here, historical landmarks with a specific date complement the natural features.
Historical Traces in the Town
Rozsochatec Castle is listed as a cultural monument. At the southern edge of the town stands a cross stone bearing a cross relief and a partially legible inscription. It commemorates the killing of a young man on April 4, 1648. For this monument, the visible relief and the only partially legible text offer different clues to its history.
The Rozsochatská huť glassworks are also part of the town’s history. They are first documented in 1786 and were abandoned in 1794 or shortly afterward. The two dates have different meanings for establishing the timeline: 1786 marks the first documented record, while 1794 or shortly afterward marks the abandonment. This distinguishes the first record from a founding date.
Hiking Trails and Getting There
A yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Rozsochatec and connects Havlíčkův Brod with Chotěboř. A green-marked route runs from Lysá via Rozsochatec and Česká Bělá to Havlíčkova Borová. Rozsochatec is therefore named along both routes. Nearby, another yellow-marked route leads to Ronovec Castle; it is about 3 km long. The routes differ in whether they pass through the town or lead to a named destination in the surrounding area. Before setting out, check the route and local trail conditions.
Rozsochatec has a railway stop on the line from Havlíčkův Brod to Chotěboř; the associated tourism website was last updated in 2011. If you plan to arrive by train, check the current timetable in advance and factor the connection into your plans.
A Stay with Special Activities
At “Penzion na zámku,” leisure guests can take part in activities including horseback riding, hunting game and fishing as part of agritourism; these activities are available to guests of the property. If one of these activities influences your travel decision, check the current booking conditions separately. This allows historical sites, hiking trails and a specific guest offering to be considered as distinct factors when planning your stay.
