Hotels in Greece
Hotels in Greece still have their own classification system. Not stars, but characters. Greek hotels, at the top of their hierarchy are represented by the De luxe hotels or 5 *. De luxe are luxury hotels located in close proximity to the main sights of Greece, or in the most picturesque places on the coast and islands of Greece. Next, in descending order, hotels of Class A, B and C follow. Class A and B hotels are similar in their structure to 3-4 * ones and often only differ in the size of rooms. Greek Class C hotels – these are small family hotels, with one or two dozens of rooms. They represented so-called budget option, which is also known as bed & breakfast. Class C hotels in Greece are the majority. They have, as a rule, tiny restaurants where cooks are often the owners themselves. Rooms design is simple, with the Greek national colour.
Many hotels in Greece are located in the tiny villages near the sea, away from the noisy resorts. Often the recreation in the rural hotels of Greece provides a better impression about the country than the excursion to the Acropolis. The owners of Greek hotels in the backwoods are often inhabitants of these villages. Therefore, they can become you guide to the around area or even accompany you to the bouzouki - Greek national parties with dance, which are arranged in the evenings in the restaurants.
More than 2 thousand islands belong to Greece. Recognized tourist centers - Corfu, Rhodes, Dodecanese, Crete – are among them. Hotels in the islands of Corfu and Rhodes are represented mainly by Deluxe class. Corfu is popular among fans of extreme sports, so you can find the entire hotel chain for divers and surfers. Corfu is generally considered to be a «pearl» of tourism of the entire Mediterranean Region. Hotels in Crete are available in a wide price range.
Large spa areas are located along the coast of Peloponnese and Halkidiki - two Greek peninsulas. Peloponnese is famous for its beaches and opportunities for exciting excursions. Near the coast of Peloponnese Corinth Canal is located, separating the Ionian and Aegean seas. Ruins of the famous ancient Greek policies: Sparta, Corinth, Mycenae – remain on the Peloponnese. Therefore, hotel infrastructure here is one of the most extensive in Greece.
The Halkidiki Peninsula is famous not only for its beaches, but the legendary Mount Athos. Athos – is the community of monks with a lot of Orthodox monasteries. Pilgrims from all over the world come here. Because church people are not accustomed to huge expenses, hotels in the vicinity of Athos mainly have 3 * status. The major part of them is located in the town Uranopolis – the nearest settlement to the Mount Athos.
