Flisa brings together hiking trails, river scenery and distinctive buildings. When planning a stay, you can choose between short walks in town, a hike with a summit destination and longer routes in the wider destination of Åsnes. The Flisa bru and the protected station building also offer their own cultural points of interest.

Hiking around Flisa

Myrmoen is a hiking and recreation area in the centre of Flisa. A prepared walking trail runs along the Flisaelva. The Fysak loop at Myrmoen is about 2.5 kilometres long, mostly flat and runs over forest ground; it is suitable for a pushchair. In the wider destination of Åsnes, Myrmoen is close to the centre of Flisa. The state-secured recreation area also includes an extensive network of trails, a cycling route and a disc golf course. There is also a path suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, as well as a ski trail lit in winter. Individual facilities may change; check the latest information before visiting.

Another hike leads from the centre of Flisa to the summit of Kjølaberget, which is 434 metres high. The hike is about 2.5 kilometres each way and alternates between asphalt and a trail through wooded terrain. When planning your time, note the difference from the Fysak loop: its roughly 2.5 kilometres refer to the entire loop, while at Kjølaberget they refer to the distance in each direction. You can extend the hike from the summit. One recommended option leads north to Nordre Tårn, an observation point about 800 metres away.

The Glåmdalsleden also passes through Flisa. Its roughly 25-kilometre section through Åsnes crosses an open, expansive cultural landscape near the Glomma, passing farmland and cultural monuments. In the wider destination of Åsnes, there are about 259 kilometres of hiking trails in forests and open terrain in total. This approximate total may change as trails are added or removed. A longer route is the marked Finnskogleden: it is 240 kilometres long and runs from Morokulien in Eidskog north through Åsnes to Søre Osen in the municipality of Trysil. The trail follows old transport routes, offers nature experiences and provides insight into the old Finnish culture. Check route conditions before setting out.

Cultural heritage in the town and wider Åsnes

The station building in Flisa is protected as cultural heritage. In the wider destination of Åsnes stands Åsnes Finnskog kirke, a wooden long church dating from 1861. A memorial stone stands beside its church portal. Its inscription states that Carl Axel Gottlund, the apostle of Finnskogen, designated this place as a church site in 1821. In Åsnes Finnskog, the former Faldåsen school is now a museum.
