Točnica brings together a protected natural site, architectural and cultural history, and recurring annual events. The Točnica stream flows through the village; churches, a wooden bell tower and a former Evangelical school building add to its historical character. If you are looking for a hotel in Točnica, nature, architectural history, literary connections or an annual occasion can shape the focus of your trip. The historical context ranges from prehistoric settlement phases to buildings with specific recorded dates.

Nature and Landscape

The Točnica stream flows through the village. Its meandering course, with remnants of an old oak forest, is designated a protected natural site for its high biological and aesthetic value. The stream and the oak forest remnants are therefore both part of this natural heritage. A stork’s nest on a pole is considered an annual attraction in Točnica and offers a different focus from the protected stream and woodland. Those wishing to plan their trip around nature will find two clearly distinct features here: the meandering watercourse with the woodland remnants, and the stork’s nest that is highlighted year after year.

Buildings and Places of Remembrance

A Neoclassical Evangelical church dating from 1806 and a Catholic church dating from 2008 represent different periods of construction. A wooden bell tower, built in 1791, stands nearby. Its year of construction should be distinguished from the later history of its location: according to the school chronicle, the tower was moved to its present location on wooden rollers in 1873. 1791 marks its construction; 1873 marks its relocation—two different dates in the history of the same building.

The Evangelical church houses an organ built by Rieger Ottó in Budapest in 1912, which has been preserved without subsequent alterations. It is currently not operational. The former Evangelical school building, dating from 1770, is one of Točnica’s cultural monuments. The poet Koloman Banšell is also connected with the village: he was born in Točnica, where a plaque commemorating him was unveiled in 1969. His birthplace and the plaque connect a biographical link with a later-dated memorial.

Archaeological Layers of Time

Točnica is recorded as a settlement site of the Late Neolithic, around 6,000 BC, and the Middle Eneolithic, around 4,000 BC. Both dates are approximate and place the site in two distinct prehistoric phases. Unlike the precisely dated churches, bell tower and plaque, they do not refer to a single year of construction or an event, but to settlement periods in the distant past. Točnica’s history therefore encompasses both archaeological classifications and specific dates for buildings and memorials.

Annual Events

The Maypole raising and felling are held annually in Točnica, along with a bonfire on St. John’s Eve and a goulash-cooking competition. October also sees the annual Month of Appreciation for Older People. These recurring occasions take different forms: alongside individual events, there is a month-long themed observance. If an event is important to your travel plans, check in advance whether its specific date falls within your travel period.

Planning Themes for Your Trip

When looking for a hotel in Točnica, you can first consider whether nature, architectural and commemorative history, or a recurring annual occasion should be the focus of your trip. These themes have different time frames: the stream and oak forest remnants are designated a natural site, buildings and memorials have specific dates, and the events recur annually. This can help you plan your stay around your interests without combining the village’s different themes into a single itinerary.
