Čierne Kľačany can be explored through several distinct themes: the Great Moravian pyx, sacred art, a reconstructed mill building and a village centre shaped by maple trees. The name Čiernokľačianska Pyxida is also used for a road race that held its 29th edition in 2026. If you are looking for a hotel in Čierne Kľačany, this mix offers a practical guide to the character of your stay.

The pyx and building history

In the Futalova Valley, a memorial plaque marks the discovery site of the Great Moravian pyx. Parts of an ivory jewellery box were found there in 1974. The name places the find in its historical context, while the year of discovery and the material establish its specific archaeological connection.

The Church of St John of Nepomuk in Čierne Kľačany is a Baroque church dating from 1777. Inside is a late Baroque painting of St John of Nepomuk from the 1770s, which comes from the former main altar. Here, Baroque and late Baroque refer to different aspects: the architectural style of the church and the painting in its interior. The year the church was built and the painting’s date both fall within the same decade. In front of the church stands a sculpture group of Cyril and Methodius, unveiled on 22 June 1997. Compared with the church and painting, it marks a distinctly later period.

The local mill is a reconstructed building dating from 1715. As a piece of technical heritage, it provides an earlier point of reference than the church and the late Baroque painting. Sacred architecture and art are thus set alongside the village’s technical history. Three dates stand out: the mill, built in 1715; the church and painting from the 1770s; and the unveiling of the sculpture group in 1997.

Village character and wine-growing

The Slovenské javorové srdce is in the village centre: a heart-shaped park made up of maple trees. Its heart shape and maple grove are two distinct features of its design. In the vineyards, a chapel houses a statue of St Urban, the patron saint of vineyards. The park and the chapel represent different settings: the centre and the vineyards. The Vinobranie wine festival was held in several years, including 2015 to 2019 and 2024.

Routes of the Čiernokľačianska Pyxida

The name Čiernokľačianska Pyxida also refers to a road race that held its 29th edition in 2026. That year’s programme included two route formats. The 15,000 m paved circuit ran from Čierne Kľačany through Nemčiňany, Malé Vozokany and Veľké Vozokany, then back to Čierne Kľačany; the start and finish were in front of the cultural centre. The programme also included a 5,000 m circuit in Čierne Kľačany along Mlynská and Matičná streets; the Nordic walking route followed this course too. The distance difference was 10 km, and the routes also differed: only the longer circuit went through Nemčiňany, Malé Vozokany and Veľké Vozokany. All route details refer to the 2026 edition.
