Haláčovce: Reservoir, fishing and local history
Accommodation in Haláčovce
You can get to know Haláčovce during a stay through several clearly distinct themes: the Vodná nádrž Haláčovce reservoir, VN Haláčovce, designated as a carp fishing ground, the Haláčovka stream and the history of the municipality. The stream flows through Haláčovce; the village lies in the northern part of the Podunajská Pahorkatina uplands. If you are looking for a hotel in Haláčovce, you can decide whether you are more interested in its waters and fishing or its local and architectural history.
Reservoir, stream and landscape
The Vodná nádrž Haláčovce reservoir was built between 1987 and 1990 within the municipality’s cadastral area. Its water surface covers 15.75 hectares, and the facility serves to retain water. The construction dates, surface area and function provide three distinct points of reference: the years date its creation, the area figure refers to the water surface, and water retention describes the reservoir’s purpose.
The Haláčovka, a stream that flows through the municipality, belongs to the Bebrava River sub-basin. In the area around Haláčovce, only low remnants of the oak-hornbeam forests, with pine trees, remain.
Fishing at VN Haláčovce
For anglers, the designation of the water is specific: VN Haláčovce is designated as a carp fishing ground under code 2-4730-1-1. A paved road is the only permitted access route to the fishing ground. If you are planning to fish there, take this access rule into account when arranging your journey.
Guest fishing permits for VN Haláčovce are issued for the 2026 season; check the permit conditions before fishing. The fishing ground is also included in the nationwide fishing permit. The guest permit and nationwide permit are separate options; the conditions applicable to your plans are the ones that matter.
Local history and church
Ceramic finds attest to settlement in Haláčovce as early as the Neolithic period, as well as from the 9th to the 15th century. The first written mention of the village dates to 1407. The finds and written mention represent different historical points of reference: the ceramics point to periods of settlement, while 1407 marks the first written record.
Nearby, the Haláčovce-Otrhánky church was built around the 11th to 12th century. The original building is a Romanesque single-nave church with a semicircular apse. “Single-nave” describes a type of building with one main nave; the apse is the semicircular end of the church building. These terms help explain the architectural form described. The church grounds are freely accessible; prior arrangement is required to visit the interior. If you would like to see inside the church, arrange this in advance.
A culinary event from 2025
On 23 July 2025, the municipality announced the “Haláčovský šúľanec” as a public cooking competition with a tasting of Šúľance. This announcement adds a dated culinary reference to the historical and architectural themes.
