Zamarovce offers several distinct themes for a trip: architectural history, religious sites, remembrance and nature. These include the classicist manor house of the Zamarovský family, the ruins of an older manor house, chapels at the upper and lower ends of the village, a memorial to fallen soldiers and the birdlife of Zamarovské jamy. The boundary cross between Zamarovce and Skalka nad Váhom is also a point of interest for walks and quiet reflection. The range thus extends from architectural and religious traces to nature watching and walks.

Manor Houses and Family History

The classicist manor house, or curia, of the Zamarovský family in Zamarovce dates from the first half of the 19th century. The term combines a specific building type with a style and a clearly defined construction period. The ruins of the older manor house are also located in the Brehy area at the upper end of Zamarovce. This makes it possible to distinguish between a classicist manor house from the 19th century and the ruins of an older house as separate architectural landmarks. The Zamarovský family crypt adds to this picture. Built in the style of a chapel, it dates from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. While the manor house dates to the first half of the 19th century, the crypt belongs to a later period. The manor house, ruins and crypt thus represent different building types and periods in local history.

Chapels from Different Periods

At the lower end of Zamarovce, there is a chapel in the pseudogothic style on Zamarovská Street. It was rebuilt in 1956 about 20 metres from its previous location. A new chapel with a bell tower was built at the upper end in 1971; it is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Their locations, construction dates and dedications help distinguish the two chapels. A bell dating from around 1500 belongs to the former chapel at the upper end and is still in use. A new building from 1971 and a much older bell thus stand side by side as distinct points of reference in time. The lower chapel also has a religious significance beyond its construction history: on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, believers gather there in the afternoon for a shared prayer service.

Remembrance and Prayer

In the courtyard of the current kindergarten stands a memorial to the sixteen local men who fell in the First World War. It was unveiled in 1921. The year marks the unveiling of the memorial; its historical reference is to those who fell in the First World War. This makes it possible to distinguish the date the memorial was created from the event it commemorates. Together with the prayer service at the lower chapel, this memorial is part of the local traditions of remembrance and faith.

Birdlife and Walks

Numerous marsh and water birds live in Zamarovské jamy. In addition to the historic buildings, the birdlife is a distinct nature theme in Zamarovce. Another point of interest is the boundary cross between Zamarovce and Skalka nad Váhom, considered a place for walks and quiet reflection. The two themes appeal to different interests: birdlife is the focus at Zamarovské jamy, while the boundary cross offers a place to walk and pause for a moment. If you choose your stay according to a particular interest, you can weigh up architectural and commemorative history, religious tradition, nature watching and walks.
