Vrakúň combines protected architectural and cultural monuments, traditional folk architecture and several flat cycling routes. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the town, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip: architectural history and rural domestic culture sit alongside routes for different types of bicycle. This means you can decide while planning whether local cultural history or a cycling trip will be the deciding factor.

Cultural Heritage and Architectural History

The protected monument ensemble “Kaštieľ a park” comprises the château, commonly known as “Chateau Amadé,” and the park feature “torzo park pri kaštieli.” The ensemble is listed under ÚZPF numbers 128/1–2. The château is probably a Louis-style building dating from the mid-18th century; it was restored in 1904. The date refers to the probable construction in the Louis style, while 1904 is the year of restoration.

Another protected monument is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It dates from the mid-18th century and is late Baroque. The ensemble is associated with ÚZPF numbers 130/1–2; 130/2 refers to the statue. The château, park feature and statue together represent different aspects of the town’s history in the protected monuments.

Today’s Roman Catholic church is dedicated to Saint James. It was built in the second half of the 14th century, probably using structural elements from an older church dating from the Árpád period. Its polygonal chancel has a ribbed cross vault; the nave vault was altered in the 18th century. The chancel and nave illustrate different architectural aspects, spanning the medieval construction phase and the later alteration. There is also a medieval pillory at the church entrance, which was used for punishment.

Folk Architecture and Village Life

The Vrakúň Folk House broadens the architectural perspective to include rural life. It is a typical example of the farmsteads of the Žitný ostrov region and showcases the folk architecture of the Danube region in southern Slovakia. As an exhibition of traditional peasant housing, it documents traditional ways of life and living in the village. This makes it possible to compare the grand architecture of the château and church with a presentation of rural housing.

The Folk House is located on the northern edge of the town, near a bend in Dvojrad Street. It bears house number 25 and registration number 458. If you plan to visit, check visiting arrangements in advance.

Cycling on Flat Routes

The Malý vrakúnsky okruh is 2,200 metres long, flat and intended for mountain bikes. It is suitable for families with children. At 2,200 metres, it is the shortest of the three routes mentioned here. The marked Vrakúň–Mad cycling route is 4,800 metres long, flat and suitable for all types of bicycle.

The also-marked Vrakúň–Povoda route is 4,700 metres long, flat and suitable for mountain bikes. It runs along the embankment of the S7 canal and over farm tracks. The two marked routes are therefore almost the same length; Vrakúň–Mad is listed as suitable for all types of bicycle, while Vrakúň–Povoda is designated for mountain bikes and follows a specific route along the embankment and farm tracks. The shorter route differs in its length and in being suitable for mountain bikes and families with children. Check current route conditions before setting out, as they may change.
