Rakovice – Landscape and Architectural History
Accommodation in Rakovice
Rakovice combines a clearly defined landscape setting with architectural history and sacred cultural monuments. When looking for a hotel, you can decide what matters most to you: the landscape, the development of the manor house, or the architecture of the local church. A church feast tradition and a disc golf course are also among the topics you can consider in your travel plans.
Landscape and Park
Rakovice lies on a terrace of the Dudváh River. At the same time, it is located in the northern part of the Trnava Loess Hills, at the transition to the Váh spur of the Danubian Lowland. These details provide orientation on two levels: the terrace location places Rakovice by the river, while the second description identifies the wider landscape region. If you consider a destination’s landscape setting when choosing where to travel, this gives you more than just a place name as a point of reference.
An English dendrological park with a rich variety of plantings lies by the manor house in Rakovice. It was established in 1856. The term “dendrological” draws attention to the trees and the diversity of the plantings; the park thus complements the geographical description with a specific feature of the local landscape. Its establishment in 1856 is also interesting for comparison with the architectural history of the manor house.
Manor House and Monuments
The manor house was originally a Renaissance building from the 17th century and was remodeled in the Neoclassical style in 1856. These details refer to different building phases: Renaissance describes the original building, while Neoclassicism is associated with its later remodeling. In the same year the park was established, the manor house also acquired its Neoclassical character.
A triple Neoclassical gate stands at the entrance to the park. A statue of Saint Florian is located behind it. Another architectural landmark is the brick bell tower in Rakovice: it has a square floor plan and probably dates from the late 18th century. This date places it chronologically between the manor house’s original construction and its remodeling in 1856.
Church and Church Feast
The Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius is a modern work of sacred architecture dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. Its floor plan is shaped like a Byzantine cross with a polygonal end. There is also a statue of Saints Cyril and Methodius at the turnoff to the church. The shapes of the buildings can be distinguished: the bell tower has a square floor plan, while the church has the shape of a Byzantine cross.
On July 8, 2025, the faithful in Rakovice commemorated the 20th anniversary of the church’s consecration. For the church feast, called Hody, a description published in 2022 gives the anniversary of the local church’s consecration as the usual date. If you would like to include Hody in your travel plans, check the exact dates before your trip.
Disc Golf and Geographic Orientation
Rakovice has a permanent disc golf course in the park within the SOŠ Rakovice grounds. As conditions can change, check the latest information before your trip if you plan to visit the course. Rakovice is also on Road II/504 between the towns of Vrbové and Trnava. This road location provides a specific geographic reference point for locating the town on a map.
