In Trakovice, architectural history, archaeological traces and a regular cultural programme sit alongside a landscape shaped by the Dudváh stream. These different themes offer varied starting points for planning your trip: from dated monuments and local events to cycling and walking plans.

Church, statues and stone heritage

The Church of Saint Stephen the King is considered Trakovice’s most important monument. Its originally neoclassical building dates from 1811. The church has a single nave, a built-in tower and a semicircular presbytery. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; the presbytery is the area by the altar. The description thus combines a precise construction date with a clear architectural form.

Statues also mark specific dates in the town’s history: the oldest stone sculpture in Trakovice is a statue of the Virgin Mary, erected by Pavol Bučko in 1884. In 1999, his grandson Štefan Bučko restored the statue. A statue of Saint Vendelin was erected by the Dudváh stream in 1885. Cemetery crosses add to this heritage: the sandstone crosses from the 19th and 20th centuries are of heritage value and come from stonemasonry workshops in Dobrá Voda.

Archaeological traces and the history of fruit growing

The settlement history of the municipal area extends back to several early periods. Trakovice was inhabited during the Neolithic, Early Bronze Age, Late Iron Age, Roman and Slavic periods. Archaeological finds include a Neolithic settlement of the Lengyel culture. Its settlement area extends beyond the cadastral boundaries of Trakovice and Žlkovce—a sign that the area’s archaeological history does not end at today’s municipal boundaries.

Traces of fruit growing are also part of the local history. Remains of cherry orchards have been preserved at Maksavy (Linaje); there are pear orchards along the road to Malženice. Linden trees stand in the cemetery, while individual mulberry and apricot trees have been preserved in private gardens. In Panšula, Jozef Šesták planted, grafted and tended wild fruit trees. Schoolchildren received practical lessons in fruit growing and gardening there. This history connects gardening with learning without presenting it as a current visitor activity.

Theatre and recurring events

The amateur theatre Divadlo na TrakOch has been active continuously since 2001 and prepares smaller or larger performances every year. Since 2002, it has organised annual St Nicholas performances for children together with the Trakovice municipal office. Performance dates may vary; if you want to plan your trip around a performance, check the latest event schedule.

The regular cultural programme includes a hunters’ ball, a gardeners’ ball and a country ball, as well as the raising of the Maypole. It also features a cultural programme for children on International Children’s Day, fruit and vegetable exhibitions, meetings with seniors, St Nicholas events, the end-of-summer celebration, Mother’s Day and open-air cinema. The different events take place throughout the year; specific dates and individual programmes may vary. Check before your trip whether an event falls during your planned stay.

The Dudváh, cycling and getting there

The Dudváh stream flows from north to south through the eastern part of Trakovice’s built-up area. The municipality considers the opportunities for cycling along the Dudváh, with a connection to Trnava via the Považská route, to be very good. It also rates the opportunities for walks and hikes as very good. For a cycling trip, it is advisable to check current route and signage conditions.

Trakovice is served by regular SAD bus services and has six bus stops. As this information does not include specific departure times, check the current timetable for your journey. State road II/513 runs through the centre on the Trakovice–Hlohovec–Nitra route. In the western part of the cadastral area, it connects to state road I/61 on the Trnava–Piešťany route; in the eastern part, II/513 leads to the D1 motorway, an international road corridor on the E75. Current traffic conditions are decisive when travelling.
