Batzendorf as a base for your stay

When choosing a hotel, it is also worth considering the surroundings you are looking for during your stay. Batzendorf is a rural village that blends tradition and modernity. It lies 5 km from Haguenau and about 20 km from Strasbourg. These distances give you a first indication of the village’s location.

Local amenities include medical services, everyday shops, tradespeople, and a hotel-restaurant. This mix of services may change; if you have a specific need, check what is currently available before your trip. Agriculture is also part of the village’s character: Batzendorf has around ten farms. Their crops and produce include hops, raspberries, oyster mushrooms, and asparagus, among other things. This is a rounded figure; individual farms and products may change.

Greenway between Batzendorf and Wintershouse

The greenway between Batzendorf and Wintershouse is 600 metres long and 3 metres wide. It is reserved for pedestrians and non-motorised traffic. Its length gives you a concrete idea of the scale if you would like to include a short route for pedestrians or non-motorised traffic in your travel plans.

Église Saint-Arbogast and its construction history

The Église Saint-Arbogast is dedicated to Saint Arbogast and has an onion dome. The neoclassical church was built in 1781 to designs by the architect Nicolas Alexandre Salins de Montfort. Its construction followed the separation of the Batzendorf parish from the Berstheim parish; previously, the church had been a chapel of ease belonging to the latter.

The Corps de Garde and the presbytery are also part of the local architectural history. Both are located at 1 rue de l’Eglise and include building campaigns dating from 1866 and 1869. The church houses a painting depicting Saint Arbogast healing the son of King Dagobert. Michel Stiehr made the organ case in 1840; the instrument was rebuilt by Edmond-Alexandre Roethinger in 1926. The church thus brings together architectural history, religious imagery, and the history of the organ.

Littelsheim: an abandoned settlement

Littelsheim, an abandoned settlement, lay southeast of Batzendorf. Its population had probably disappeared as early as the 17th century. A chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas was still mentioned there in 1758; it may have disappeared during or after the French Revolution. The area’s history therefore extends beyond Batzendorf’s buildings to an earlier settlement in its surroundings.

Discovery flights and the Fête de l’Air

Batzendorf Ultra-Légers offers discovery flights to the public during the warmer months, allowing you to explore the region from the air. Before your trip, check whether flights are scheduled during your dates. The club traditionally holds the Fête de l’Air every September, attracting a large and loyal audience. If the festival is relevant to your travel plans, check the specific event dates in advance.
