Kintzheim combines attractions related to birds of prey, forests, wine and Alsatian cuisine with a town centre home to the present-day Saint-Martin Church. If you are looking for a hotel in Kintzheim, it helps to organise your interests for your stay: the Volerie des Aigles is located in a medieval castle, the Montagne des Singes is dedicated to observing monkeys, and there are also trails and seasonal events. Approximate travel times to the Volerie, concert dates and seasonal timetables all play a role in planning your day.

Birds of Prey, Forests and Attractions

The Volerie des Aigles is located in the Château de Kintzheim, a medieval castle dating from the 13th century. Its birds of prey show is performed in the castle courtyard. More than 30 species of birds of prey live at the Volerie and can move about freely. From the village of Kintzheim, the Volerie is about a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute cycle ride away. These travel times give you a practical comparison when planning a visit on foot or by bike.

The Montagne des Singes offers a different focus: more than 200 free-roaming monkeys can be observed in its forest wildlife park; the number of animals may change. An educational and fun trail leads through the forest. Commentated feedings take place every 45 minutes, although the schedule may vary by season. This visit therefore centres on both the walk and the feedings; check the seasonal schedule for the latter.

At Cigoland, Le Pommier features 40 apple-shaped gondolas around an apple tree almost 10 metres tall. Noody Studio is an immersive cinema showing specially produced films. While Le Pommier has a distinct apple theme, the films are the focus at the studio. The attractions on offer may evolve, and the film programme may also change.

Church, Castle and Concert Dates

The present-day Saint-Martin Church stands on a rise in the town centre and was built between 1844 and 1846. It houses a reliquary containing a tooth of Saint James, as well as a restored Stiehr-Mockers organ. Four concerts are held in the church each year. If you would like to attend one, check the specific dates. Saint-Martin thus combines a 19th-century church building with named historical objects and an annual concert programme.

The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg is geographically distinct: it lies within the territory of neighbouring Orschwiller, but also shapes the landscape around Kintzheim. This connection to the landscape complements the view of the Château de Kintzheim, home to the Volerie des Aigles.

Trails, Wine and Regional Cuisine

Kintzheim has numerous hiking, cycling and mountain biking trails. These include hiking trails marked by the Vosges Club and other cycling routes. Check the local markings and routes before planning your trip.

At Kintzheim’s wine cellars, you can taste Grand Cru Praelatenberg. Check in advance which cellars are participating and how tastings are arranged. Restaurants in Kintzheim serve tarte flambée and other Alsatian specialities; offerings and menus may change. Wine tastings and regional dishes thus offer points of interest in their own right, alongside excursions and trails.

The Navette du Haut-Koenigsbourg runs seasonally between Sélestat railway station and Haut-Koenigsbourg. It goes via Cigoland, the centre of Kintzheim, the Volerie des Aigles and the Montagne des Singes. Check the current timetable if you plan to use this service.
