Ohnenheim brings together architectural history, historic sites and nature. This offers different ways to plan a trip to Ohnenheim: Saint-Grégoire Parish Church showcases several building phases, a secluded farm is linked to Amish history, and the Forêts Riediennes botanical trail winds through the Ried landscape. Other highlights include tumulus graves, a private military collection, and the Parc et Jardin de la Romance. If you are looking for hotels in Ohnenheim, these themes can help you choose whether to focus your trip on architecture, history or landscape.

Church and historic traces

Saint-Grégoire Parish Church is documented as far back as 1371. It underwent extensive alterations in the late 18th century: the nave was demolished and rebuilt, while the medieval choir tower was preserved. The dating to 1777–1778 is uncertain. The church therefore shows both a medieval building element and the extensive changes made in the late 18th century. For architecture enthusiasts, its particular appeal lies in the combination of different building phases, rather than a single year of construction.

The Amish signed the Convention de foi communeat a secluded farm in Ohnenheim in 1660; the site is now a mill. Ohnenheim’s tumulus graves also include a Hallstatt-period wagon grave discovered in 1917. The Convention marks a specific, dated historical event, while the wagon grave is an archaeological find from the Hallstatt period.

A private military collection with specific visitor requirements

The private Alsace 39/45 military collection displays 40 mannequins and numerous artefacts across an area of 150 m². Guided visits are available. Visits are by appointment only, and groups are limited to a maximum of four people. If you plan to visit, arrange an appointment in advance and bear the group size limit in mind. The collection offers a distinct cultural and historical focus alongside the history of the church and archaeology.

Ried landscape and garden

The Forêts Riediennes botanical trail is 6 km long. It follows the Blind groundwater stream through the Ried landscapes of Ohnenheim; almost 20 information panels cover the trees and the different facets of the Ried landscape. The trail thus connects a named watercourse with botanical and landscape themes. Its length gives you a practical guide for planning, while the panels provide additional points of interest. If you do not want to focus your stay solely on historic sites, this offers a nature and landscape experience.

The Parc et Jardin de la Romance is home to centuries-old willows and is located in front of a former 17th-century farmhouse. The old willows and the former farmhouse offer different ways to appreciate nature and architectural history. Unlike the trail, which follows the Blind through the Ried landscape, the garden brings willows together with a historic building.
