Soultz-les-Bains offers a range of themes to consider when planning your stay: the tower of Saint Maurice Church, historic fountains and other traces of the village’s history, marked trails through vineyards and forests, and the natural surroundings of Jesselsberg. If you are looking for a hotel in Soultz-Les-Bains, these local highlights can help you decide whether culture, hiking, winegrowing, or nature observation should shape your trip.

Church and historic traces

The tower of Saint Maurice Church was built between 1185 and 1200. The church has been listed as a historic monument since 1996. A Silbermann organ in Soultz-les-Bains was restored in 2007 and returned to its 1848 condition. It has the only surviving pair of wedge bellows made by Jean-André Silbermann. The long history of the tower’s construction and the restoration of the instrument thus represent different aspects of the local heritage.

A church built in Soultz-les-Bains in 1845 has a ceiling shaped like an inverted ship’s hull. The IR6 infantry shelter lies on the Dangolsheim ridge above Soultz-les-Bains. Fountains and a former lime kiln are also among the historic traces: the Holtzbrunne fountain dates from the 19th century and was once used as a watering place for flocks of sheep. Today, it is on a Club Vosgien trail. The first written records of the Kaltenbrunne fountain date from 1651; restoration of the site was completed in October 2000. The former lime kiln was used to process limestone from nearby quarries.

Hiking and circular trails

The marked Sentier des Casemates combines hiking with historical discovery. The circular route passes through vineyards and forests, with First World War remains and panoramic views along the way. Numerous other marked trails run through the vineyards of Soultz-les-Bains. For a comparison by route length, the Sentier des croix et oratoires offers two loops: the yellow one is about 6 km long, and the red one is 7.5 km. Before setting out, check the current route and markings, as trail details may change.

A specific distance is also given for a cycling route: the 25 km Couronne d’Or mountain bike circuit passes through the wine-growing villages of Ergersheim, Wolxheim, and Soultz-les-Bains. It is therefore clearly distinct from the hiking trails described, both in the activity specified and in the stated distance. The range of routes provides a practical basis for matching your planned activities to the interests of your travel group.

Views and nature at Jesselsberg

Jesselsberg offers views of Strasbourg Cathedral and the Donon. The 22-hectare site was leased by the municipality of Soultz-les-Bains to the Conservatoire des Sites Alsaciens for 99 years. Depending on the season and location, hawthorn, dogwood, privet, barberry, and sage may be found there. Skylarks, kestrels, magpies, and lizards, as well as signs of deer or badgers, may also be observed. These observations are seasonal and not guaranteed; Jesselsberg combines a scenic viewpoint with nature that changes throughout the year.

Winegrowing and local character

Soultz-les-Bains is on the Alsace Wine Route. All seven Alsatian grape varieties are represented in the village’s wine-growing area, with Riesling and Gewürztraminer predominating. Winegrowing is therefore a travel interest in its own right, alongside the historic buildings and trails. Together with the marked routes through the vineyards, it can be included in your plans without assuming that any particular offering or activity is available locally.

Sulzbad: history and current update

Sulzbad reopened in early 1999 and became a spa and wellness center. The Sulzbad thermal site is partly located in Soultz-les-Bains. Following the fire on July 29, 2025, the facility remained closed according to the operator’s information as of June 2026; reopening in 2026 was not planned. If you are traveling after 2026, check its status in advance. This keeps Sulzbad’s history separate from the time-specific visitor-planning update.
