Wildersbach combines hiking trails with clearly identifiable landmarks from the town’s history. Trails meet at the Col de la Perheux; in the town, a Protestant heritage trail leads to the Lutheran church, while a former industrial site remains visible in the lower part. When planning your trip, the length and elevation gain of a route are just as relevant as the type of historical landmarks along it. For hiking information, it is worth distinguishing between a half-day hike and individual sections across the heights of Wildersbach.

Hiking at the Col de la Perheux

La Perheux is a natural high-altitude pasture. Twelve trails meet at the Col de la Perheux, making the pass a hiking hub. The Ferme Auberge de la Perheux is located at an altitude of 680 m at the pass, close to numerous hiking trails, and offers panoramic views over the valley. This gives you specific information about the elevation, proximity to trails and views. If you plan to include the site in your visit, check the latest operating information before you go; operational details may change.

The C15 “Around the Col de la Perheux” hiking trail is a moderately difficult half-day hike of 11 km with 350 m of elevation gain, starting in Rothau. Along the way, a 2.5 km stretch with a gentle ascent crosses the heights of Wildersbach to the Abri du Chenôt. The route information and the shorter section answer different planning questions: the half-day hike describes the entire route, while the 2.5 km refers only to the section up to the Abri.

On the C15, the trail reaches the Ferme Auberge de la Perheux 300 m after the turnoff beyond the “Wildersbach” sign; 300 m farther on, it leads to the Col de la Perheux. For navigation, both the order of the waypoints and the two individual distances matter. The stated starting point for the hike remains Rothau, even though one section crosses the heights of Wildersbach.

Lutheran church and local history

The Protestant heritage trail follows a small mountain road to the Lutheran church of Wildersbach on Rue de l'Église. The church’s original altar, pulpit and pews are all fully preserved. The heritage therefore includes several specific furnishings as well as the route to the church. The present-day Lutheran church was built in 1862; its tower porch was added in 1892. The two dates distinguish the construction of the church from the later addition of the tower porch.

The local route also passes a historical landmark in the lower part of Wildersbach: the base of the former chimney of the heating plant at the production building of Société Claude Frêres has been preserved there. This visible remnant recalls the area’s former industrial use, while the church tells a religious and architectural chapter in the town’s history.

Storytelling walks and historical themes

The Marches contées program listed for 2026 explores five centuries of history and the legends of the Ban de la Roche. These storytelling walks therefore focus on something different from the C15’s specific distance and elevation figures: the emphasis is on historical stories and legends. If you would like to include this program in your trip, check the dates and availability in advance.
