Discover Friesen
Accommodation in Friesen
Friesen offers several ways to tailor your stay to the activities you have in mind. A walking tour takes in old houses and architectural heritage, while a guided tour combines village history with a look inside half-timbered houses and the old Vernier dairy. For cycling, you can choose between the Largue Valley circular route and the Bike Park with its features and pump track. The options are clearly distinct: you can first decide whether you would like to explore Friesen on foot, on a guided tour or by bike.
On foot past old houses
The walking tour of Friesen’s old houses and architectural heritage follows an easy route through well-preserved streets abloom with flowers. The route combines a stroll with a view of the village’s streetscape. If you would like to take in the buildings and streets on foot, this tour offers a different experience from a guided tour with open house doors or the cycling options.
An inside look on a guided tour
The guided tour of the village spans five centuries of history. During the tour, local residents open their doors so visitors can discover magnificent half-timbered houses; the old Vernier dairy is also included. Access to private homes is available only as part of the organised tour. As tour availability may change, check dates and availability in advance.
Circular cycling route through the Largue Valley
Cycling route No. 19, “Le tour des cigognes,” starts in Friesen and forms a short loop through the Largue Valley. The route presents no significant difficulties and is suitable for families. Its focus is a cycling tour through the valley, which sets it apart from the Bike Park with its individual features and pump track. To choose between them, consider whether you would prefer a circular route or a park with a range of features.
Friesen Bike Park
Friesen Bike Park’s Ludik Park has more than ten features, and there is also a pump track. This makes it different from the cycling route: the focus here is on the features and pump track, not on a route through the valley. The facilities may change over time. If a particular feature is important to your plans, check that it is currently available before your visit.
Two perspectives on history
The parish church of Saint-Pierre, Saint-Paul in Friesen also offers a precisely dated historical reference: its nave was rebuilt in 1771. The nave is the main, lengthwise section of a church; the date refers to the rebuilding of this part of the building, not to the structure as a whole. This gives you two different historical perspectives to choose from: the guided tour covers five centuries, while 1771 dates the rebuilding of a specific part of the building. You can thus choose between a broad overview of village history and a specific architectural reference.
