Lapoutroie offers a variety of reasons to stay: insights into the production of spirits and Munster cheese go hand in hand with hikes, a distinctive moorland landscape and places connected with history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Lapoutroie, these highlights can help you plan your stay: decide whether you’d most like to include a tour, a walk or historic sites in your itinerary.

Explore local production and regional products

Distillerie Miclo offers a tour of its history, distillation room and ageing cellar. The tour also includes a tasting of three spirits of your choice. The visit thus combines an insight into the distillery with a tasting, focusing both on the business’s history and on the rooms where the spirits are distilled and aged.

At Fromagerie Haxaire, the focus is on Munster cheese: visitors can watch the traditional production process. Admission and tastings are free. Since 1929, the Fromagerie has made its own Munster using traditional methods. This gives you the chance to see the cheese-making process up close. The distillery and the cheese dairy offer different highlights: one focuses on spirits and ageing, the other on making Munster.

Lapoutroie’s weekly market also brings visitors together with local producers and fresh regional products. As the market day may be important for planning your visit, check the latest market information beforehand.

Moorland and two different walks

Etang du Devin is a two-hectare high moorland in a glacial cirque shaped by northerly winds. The site also preserves extensive remains from the First World War. This makes it a place where a distinctive landscape and traces of history come together. If you’re interested in both nature and history, this combination offers a unique focus for your stay.

Allow around two hours for a hike to Tour du Faudé. It leads from Lapoutroie to a viewpoint overlooking the valley. By contrast, Petit tour du Faudé is an approximately 30-minute woodland walk for children and adults. The route is also accessible by mountain bike for older children who no longer need a stroller. The two options differ clearly in duration and destination: the longer route leads to the viewpoint, while the shorter one is described as a woodland walk.

Church, museum and places of remembrance

The Church of Sainte-Odile in Lapoutroie was consecrated on 3 October 1912. The Musée des Eaux de Vie is housed in a former 18th-century post station. The two places offer different historical connections: the church’s consecration date is recorded, while the museum building’s former function is known.

Near Lapoutroie is TĂŞte des Faux, a mountain battlefield from the First World War, fought between 1914 and 1918. French and German remains have been preserved there, and the site is designated a historic monument. The German military cemetery at Kahm is a separate place of remembrance. It lies in a wooded area and is classified by UNESCO.

These historic sites differ in nature: TĂŞte des Faux is associated with a mountain battlefield, Kahm is a military cemetery, and Sainte-Odile and the former post station offer other perspectives on local and architectural history. You can therefore shape your stay around the topic that interests you most, without conflating these distinct places.
