Logelheim brings together municipal nature and recreational spaces with local culture and history. The orchard is near the Ill, while the sports and leisure facility runs along the river. There is also a municipal fishing pond, the Saint-Gall quilles game and the Church of Saint Maurice. These different themes give you specific points of interest when planning a stay around nature, recreation or culture.

Orchard and nature

The municipal orchard has around 30 fruit trees, including apple, pear, cherry and plum trees. This figure is approximate. Signs provide information about the different types of fruit, making them a focus of the garden in their own right. A brushwood hedge adds a habitat function to the fruit planting: it provides a home for beneficial insects such as lacewings and offers shelter to small mammals, including hedgehogs. The orchard thus brings together tree species and habitats as distinct aspects of nature. A picnic table was installed there in 2022.

Recreation by the Ill and at the fishing pond

At the end of Rue Lazare de Schwendi, a 1.35-hectare sports and leisure facility stretches along the Ill. It includes a children’s playground and a city park for teenagers. The two specifically named areas give the site different focuses: play for children and a dedicated park for teenagers. This distinguishes the facility from the orchard, whose themes are trees, fruit varieties and habitats.

The municipal fishing pond is a place to meet and relax, and is often used as a setting for spontaneous picnics. Its design took biodiversity and the natural surroundings into account. Here, an explicitly stated purpose of recreation goes hand in hand with ecological considerations. Together with the orchard and sports facility, it forms part of a range of municipal recreational spaces, each offering something different.

Culture in Logelheim

The Saint-Gall quilles game is considered part of Logelheim’s local cultural heritage. It is a cultural theme in its own right, alongside the nature and recreational spaces. The Church of Saint Maurice also provides a historical reference point: it is mentioned as a parish church as early as the 8th century and was dedicated to Saint Maurice in the 12th century. The two dates relate to different aspects of its history—the early mention as a parish church and the later dedication.

Mass is celebrated regularly in the church, while choral singing and small concerts take place occasionally. If you are planning your visit specifically around a musical event, check the dates of individual events in advance. Religious services and occasional musical events are separate occasions to bear in mind when planning your visit.

Events and historical connections

After two previous years, the obstacle race “La Ruée des Fadas” held its third edition in Logelheim in 2024. The race covered eight kilometres around the multipurpose hall and featured around 30 different obstacles. These details refer to the 2024 edition. Also documented in Logelheim for 2024 is the “Schiffalafascht,” one of the usual events held by a quilles club; that year, it took place for the tenth time.

Another historical connection extends beyond the village: the ruins of Hohlandsberg Castle are outside Logelheim, in the area above Wintzenheim. The connection with the village is through the former Lordship of Hohlandsberg, which once included Logelheim. This places the village’s history in the context of that former lordship, without presenting the castle, which lies outside the village, as an attraction within Logelheim.
