Lusigny-sur-Ouche can be explored through several specific themes: the architectural history of Saint-Symphorien Church, the spring landscape of the Ouche, and trails that begin in or near the town. Cultural events at the Château de Lusigny and a memorial to the history of the Resistance add to these attractions. These highlights help you tailor your stay to your interests, with local history, landscapes and outdoor activities offering different ways to explore.

Springs and the waterscape

Lusigny-sur-Ouche is known as a village by the water and as the guardian of the sources of the Ouche in Côte-d’Or. The Ouche rises from seven springs, including the source at Presles. In the grounds of the Château de Lusigny, two canalised branches of the river border the park: one lies to the east, the other to the west. This reveals two distinct connections with the Ouche: its origins in several springs and the canalised course of its branches beside the park. The landscapes around Lusigny-sur-Ouche are considered particularly well preserved; the town is also regarded as an ideal place to observe ecological relationships.

Church and local history

The present-day Saint-Symphorien Church was completed in 1837. Historically, however, it was already the village’s fourth place of worship: earlier places of worship had been abandoned or demolished. A former large parish church had to be demolished because the ground was too unstable and the piles had been poorly designed. A safer site was chosen for the present church. The year 1837 therefore marks the completion of a long building history, not the beginning of worship in Lusigny-sur-Ouche. The town’s architectural features also include stone houses accessed by exterior staircases. The church and the stone houses offer different architectural points of interest: at Saint-Symphorien, the focus is on its building history, while the houses are notable for their exterior staircases.

Hiking trails and views

The Chemin des Sources de l’Ouche hiking trail begins in Lusigny-sur-Ouche and ends in Pontailler-sur-Saône. Its two endpoints give you clear bearings if you’re looking for a route with a named destination. Another specific landmark is the hiking trail to the right of the “La Clé des sources” restaurant: follow it to reach the Vierge Noire and the Cabotte. The climb to the viewpoint takes about 20 minutes. For planning purposes, the information answers different questions: the Chemin des Sources has named starting and ending points, while an approximate climbing time is given for the viewpoint.

Culture and remembrance

At the Château de Lusigny, the Association L’Arrière-pays organises public events each year, including gatherings, workshops, performances, work projects and other activities. The programme ranges from social gatherings and practical projects to performances. If you’d like to plan your trip around an event, check the dates before travelling.

The history of the Resistance is also commemorated in Lusigny-sur-Ouche by a monument. On 30 March 1944, the Maquis was surrounded following a denunciation; ten young Resistance fighters were killed. A monument was erected in their memory at the crossroads of Route de Beaune and Route d’Echarnant.
