Merceuil offers several different options for a stay: the ponds and nature activities at the Étangs d’Or, the Church of Saint-Laurent and a watchmaking-related activity. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by deciding which theme you want to shape your trip. The places and activities differ not only in what they offer, but also in how they can be planned.

Ponds, birdwatching and outdoor activities

The Les Étangs d’Or leisure park near Merceuil-Tailly covers more than 200 hectares and includes 16 ponds. From viewing points along the edges of the ponds, you can watch herons, kingfishers and coots. Leisure activities include family walks, fishing and exploring natural habitats. The pond edges offer specific places for birdwatching; walking and fishing provide a different focus in the park.

Plan your journey and walk

The Étangs d’Or are open daily, and admission is free. Check the opening conditions before you travel. From Beaune, take the Beaune-Centre exit on the A6, then follow the D23 towards Merceuil; check the road conditions before setting off. The 1.5-kilometre “Sentier du Hérisson” walking trail is also signposted in the Merceuil area. Its name and length provide a specific reference point for planning your walk.

Church architecture and building history

The Church of Saint-Laurent in Merceuil is located on Rue du Bourg. The church was built in three phases. Its oldest section dates from the reign of Charlemagne, from the late 8th to the early 9th century; the choir dates from the Late Middle Ages and is Gothic in style. The timeline therefore extends from the Carolingian era to the Late Middle Ages. For a cultural and historical overview, the early section and the much later Gothic choir are the clearest points of reference.

Watchmaking by appointment

The “Expérience Horlogerie à l’Instant Beaun’Heur” activity in Merceuil offers a watchmaking discovery experience or an introductory course. In 2026, the activity is available by prior appointment from January 1 to December 31. When planning, decide which of the two formats interests you and arrange a time in advance. Check availability before your trip so you can fit the experience into the rest of your plans.

Choose a hotel to suit your stay

The themes can be seen as different considerations when making your choice: for nature, the ponds and viewing points are a reference; for cultural history, the church’s different periods of construction; and the watchmaking activity requires you to arrange an appointment. Decide on the focus of your trip before comparing specific hotel offers. Then check the offer details against the requirements that matter for your stay.
