Corancy brings together scenery, outdoor activities and historic religious buildings. Lac de Pannecière, trails through flower- and forest-lined landscapes, the Church of Saint-Euphrone and the Chapelle de Faubouloin offer different focal points for a trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Corancy, you can first consider whether you would rather focus on the lake and outdoor activities or on architectural history.

Lac de Pannecière and outdoor trails

Corancy is one of the four municipalities on the shores of Lac de Pannecière; the others are Chaumard, Montigny-en-Morvan and Ouroux-en-Morvan. The lake covers 520 hectares and stretches for 7.5 kilometres through wooded hills. Hiking and fishing are possible at the lake. Circular trails around the lake offer a chance to discover its wild-growing flora.

Corancy also offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding on trails lined with flowers and forests. Nature watching and different ways of getting around are therefore available as distinct options for your stay.

If you would like to plan a hike with a specific destination, a trail leads to the Chapelle de Faubouloin. It starts and ends in Corancy, is 9 kilometres long and is classified as easy. Its length helps you fit the outing into your day’s plans. Trail conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

Church of Saint-Euphrone

The Church of Saint-Euphrone was built on the site of a 12th-century church. Its choir dates from the last quarter of the 15th century. The rear left chapel and bell tower date from the first quarter of the 16th century, while the front portal dates from the last quarter of the same century. The building’s elements thus mark a sequence spanning the late 15th to the late 16th century. The church also contains a tombstone dating from 1605, which is classified as a historic monument.

Chapelle de Faubouloin

The Chapelle de Faubouloin is also known as the Chapelle du Frêne or Chapelle Notre Dame de Grâce, and has been classified as a historic monument since 1943. The chapel contains two statues from the 15th and 17th centuries. A mass is still celebrated at Faubouloin on 15 August.

The chapel can be visited with a key available from the town hall. Check the access arrangements locally before your visit. Access is via a municipal road, and parking is available for cars. A GR de pays or PR walking trail passes less than 500 metres away. Visiting the chapel and hiking involve different planning considerations: the local key arrangements for the visit and trail conditions for the hike.

Timber rafting in the Morvan

In the Morvan, timber rafting along the nearby Yonne was an important economic activity. The last timber rafting took place in 1923. This regional history adds another historical theme to the architectural history of the religious buildings.
