Baudrières offers several clearly distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: the wetlands at the Étang de la Verne, Romanesque architecture at the Église Saint-Pierre, the Ferme de Tenarre, the Moulin Bas and a hiking route. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether nature, architectural history or hiking will be the focus of your stay.

Étang de la Verne: circular trail and directions

The Étang de la Verne is in the hamlet of Tenarre and is easy to access; there are two large car parks there. An educational circular trail passes through the wetlands and is equipped with boardwalks and signs. There are two reserved parking spaces for visitors with reduced mobility, along with an accessible path and an adapted boardwalk. Check the current status of these facilities before travelling.

Église Saint-Pierre: portal and history

The Église Saint-Pierre in Baudrières dates from the 11th century. The portal features a modillion cornice, a detail of Romanesque architecture: a cornice with small projecting supports that frames the entrance. This feature draws attention to the design of the entrance, while the date places the building in its historical period. The church’s history also includes an event in 1081, when Gautier de Couches, Bishop of Chalon, gave the church of Baudrières to Francon, Abbot of Tournus. The 11th-century date and the transfer in 1081 complement each other, but refer to different things: the church’s historical period and a specific historical event.

Ferme de Tenarre and Moulin Bas

The history of the Ferme de Tenarre begins in 1641. A gallery with wooden crosspieces hewn with an axe provides a specific example of craftsmanship. In addition, the façade, roof and chimney were included in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. These details offer different perspectives on the farm: its historical period, the working of the wood and the status of specific parts of the building. At the Ferme, chronology, craftsmanship and inventory status can therefore be considered separately.

The Moulin Bas in Tenarre is a mill beside a pond. Here, unlike at the portal and gallery, the focus is on the type of mill and its relationship to the pond.

Hiking the Circuit de Baudrières

The Circuit de Baudrières (BAUD1) is a 19 km hiking route. As a hiking option, it differs from the educational circular trail at the Étang: BAUD1 focuses on the named hiking route, while the trail through the wetlands, with its boardwalks and signs, defines the character of the route at the Étang. The distance gives you a specific point of reference for planning your hike. Route conditions may change; check the current conditions for the Circuit before setting out.
