Chevagny-sur-Guye combines hiking and local history with a landscape shaped by forests and hedgerow meadows. Several trails pass through the village, and the Église Saint-Antoine is a Romanesque building. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the village, these themes may influence your choice of destination.

Hiking in Chevagny-sur-Guye

Several hiking trails pass through the village of Chevagny-sur-Guye. A section of the GR®7 runs from Col des Vaux in the commune of Verosvres, via Butte de Suin, to Chevagny-sur-Guye, ending at the Église Saint-Antoine. This distinguishes the village's general trails from a specifically described section with a named starting point, waypoint, and destination. The GR®7 route description was updated in 2025; check the trail markings and conditions before setting out.

The announcement of 14 May 2026 listed four hiking routes for the Randonnée de l’Ascension: 8 km, 13 km, 18 km, and a 6 km route suitable for adapted use and pushchairs. This selection of routes applied to that particular edition and may vary from one edition to another. If an event date is important to your trip, check the information for your preferred period.

The Église Saint-Antoine and its stained-glass windows

The Église Saint-Antoine is a Romanesque building that may date back to the 12th century. Its original Romanesque nave survives in a floor plan that was altered in the 16th century. This brings together a cautiously dated Romanesque origin and a later change to the floor plan. The church was formerly dedicated to Saint Sulpicius.

Several windows feature unusual iconography, including the multiplication of the loaves and the Communion of the Virgin Mary. The stained-glass windows were recently restored; their condition may change with further conservation work. The Bessac workshop proposed a series of stained-glass windows for the Église Saint-Antoine depicting scenes from the lives of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

Landscape and local character

Chevagny-sur-Guye lies on the northwestern hills of the Clunisois. Forests and hedgerow-lined meadows shape the landscape and benefit birds. Alongside the hiking trails, the area's natural features are therefore another distinct consideration when choosing a destination. The combination of woodland and varied meadows gives the surroundings a distinctive landscape.

The village has an organic bakery and an association of local producers. If you would like to include the bakery in your travel plans, confirm that it is open before you arrive. The association is another part of the local character.

Putting event dates in context

Chevagny Passions Partagées held its tenth edition in 2026. Together with the Randonnée de l’Ascension, this event offers another point of interest alongside hiking and the history of church architecture. If events may influence your travel plans, check the dates for the relevant edition before planning your stay.
