Cronat: Loire Valley, EuroVelo 6 and Heritage
Accommodation in Cronat
Cronat is a village overlooking the Loire Valley. You can start planning your trip here around three distinct features of the area: the EuroVelo 6 stages, the historic architecture and the picnic area on the Voie Verte. This offers a range of themes, from route and landscape questions to specific architectural styles and a convenient place to take a break.
Cycling on EuroVelo 6
The Cronat–Decize stage of EuroVelo 6 follows the Loire for a short stretch before continuing through hilly terrain. It then follows a Greenway along the Canal du Nivernais to Saint-Léger-des-Vignes. The Bourbon-Lancy–Cronat stage is 18 kilometres long and passes through gentle hills overlooking the Loire Valley. Together, the two stages offer different points of reference: the Bourbon-Lancy–Cronat stage is defined by its length and valley views, while Cronat–Decize combines a short stretch along the Loire and hilly terrain with the Greenway by the Canal du Nivernais. Both the village of Cronat and the gentle hills on the Bourbon-Lancy–Cronat stage are associated with views over the Loire Valley. Before setting off, check the route surface and signage locally; minor changes to the route are possible.
Château and church: Cronat’s heritage
The Château de la Baulme was built from brick and stone between 1858 and 1863. Its architecture is in the Neo-Louis XIII style, while its interior follows the Neo-Louis XVI style. The two terms refer to different aspects of the building: its architecture on the one hand and its interior design on the other. By decree dated 19 January 1999, the château was listed as a historic monument. The construction period and the decree date serve different purposes: 1858 to 1863 refers to the building’s construction, while 1999 marks its listing as a monument.
The Church of Saint-Symphorien dates from the second half of the 19th century. Its side aisles end in two chapels: the one on the right is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the one on the left to Saint Symphorian. The choir is decorated with 19th-century paintings. For cultural orientation, the distinction is clear: the château is notable for its building materials and architectural style, while the church stands out for its chapel dedications and choir paintings.
A break at the Voie Verte
The picnic area on the Voie Verte in Cronat is open year-round and has parking and public toilets. When planning a break during the year, this is a different point of reference from the historic buildings: you can include it as a convenient stop in Cronat.
Finding your way around the hotel search
If you’re looking for a hotel in Cronat, use the purpose of your trip as a basis for comparison: for a cycling trip, stage length and route characteristics are relevant; for a culture-focused stay, consider the history and distinctive details of the château and church. Compare specific offers for your travel dates according to your personal accommodation criteria.
