Discover Montagny-Lès-Buxy
Accommodation in Montagny-Lès-Buxy
Montagny-Lès-Buxy offers three concrete themes to help you plan your trip: the vineyard landscape, walking routes and a few historical highlights. The village lies in a natural amphitheatre that opens onto the Chalonnaise plain. The vineyards around Montagny-Lès-Buxy are planted with Chardonnay. The landform describes the village’s setting; the Chardonnay vines give the surrounding wine-growing area a specific grape variety. Depending on your interests, you can include a walking route, local history or a visit to Domaine Berthenet et Fils, which must be booked in advance, in your plans.
Vineyard landscapes and walking trails
The Sentier Viticole du Montagny is a signposted 4 km loop trail. It starts at the entrance to the village and runs through the village and vineyards; eight interpretive panels line the route. The Le Montagny loop starts and ends in Montagny-Lès-Buxy. At 7 km, it is longer; the route has an elevation gain of 222 m and follows vineyard paths to the Croix Saint Morille, where you can picnic. The routes therefore differ in more than just length: the Sentier combines information panels with a route through the village and vineyards, while Le Montagny has a named destination, an elevation gain of 222 m and the option to picnic. The distances indicate the route lengths; the elevation gain is an additional feature of Le Montagny.
Before setting out, check the waymarking and conditions for the Sentier Viticole du Montagny; conditions on the Le Montagny loop may vary. In addition to the two loop trails, the GR 76 long-distance trail passes through Montagny-Lès-Buxy. If you plan to take it, check its current waymarking.
Local history
The Church of Saint-Vincent is part of the village’s history. It preserves a 17th-century stucco altarpiece; beneath the bell tower there is also a section that may be of Romanesque origin. Thus, a clearly dated work of art sits alongside an architectural feature whose origins are described with caution. The church offers a different focus from the vineyard paths: its furnishings and architectural history take centre stage, rather than the course of a route.
Local winegrowing
Domaine Berthenet et Fils offers two different ways to explore local winegrowing. Groups are welcomed for tastings in the tasting cellar by prior arrangement. Visits to the Montagny appellation and the winery are also available by prior arrangement. For planning purposes, these are two formats: a group tasting in the tasting cellar, or a visit that includes the appellation and winery. If you want to include either in your trip, make sure to book in advance. The visitor experience thus complements the Chardonnay vineyard landscape with a specific focus on winegrowing.
