Préty combines a townscape of pink stone with a striking history of trees, rural farmsteads and a wooded setting. It also offers walks, basketry courses, equestrian events and a wine estate, each with different planning considerations. If you are considering Préty as a destination for an overnight stay, these themes can help you plan your visit: are you more interested in architecture and history, would you like to go walking, or are you planning to attend a specific course or wine-related appointment? When choosing your dates, consider whether your stay depends on an event date or an advance appointment.

History and architectural styles

The centre of Préty is built entirely from local pink stone. The rural farmsteads group outbuildings around square courtyards, with round-arched gateways opening onto the street. Préty thus offers a chance to see both the material used in its centre and a distinctive arrangement of rural buildings.

Préty's pink stone quarries were once well known. Their stone was used, among other things, for the towers of the Romanesque Abbey of Tournus and the Hôtel-Dieu in Louhans. The story of the stone therefore leads from local quarries to two specifically named buildings.

Préty's monumental plane tree was planted in 1801 on a hill, on the site of a so-called court linden, to mark the Concordat. In 1909 it was listed as a historic monument; it reaches a height of 33.5 metres. Its planting and subsequent heritage designation mark two distinct stages in its history.

The central washhouse was renovated in 2020. The site includes two cascading basins and a redesigned access area. Alongside the historic tree and stone buildings, a more recent change to Préty's townscape is therefore another architectural point of interest.

Landscape and trails

The municipality of Préty includes 580 hectares of woodland. This landscape adds another point of interest to the stone-built townscape for travellers who also take woodland and the rural setting into account when choosing a destination.

Préty is recommended as a starting point for walks between the Saône and the local quarries. Check individual routes and conditions before setting out, so your plans suit the trails you want to walk.

Activities with scheduled dates

The competition venue of the Préty-Cuisery riding school is at RD37; the municipality describes the site in Préty as an equestrian competition ground. Competition dates and public access may vary. Check the dates and public access before visiting.

Since 2015, Préty Patrimoine de Pays has held basketry courses every year. This offers a hands-on way to explore the destination alongside its architecture and local history. If a course is important to your travel plans, check the specific date before making arrangements.

At its Préty site, Domaine de la Main d'Or grows grapes for the Mâcon Blanc AOC wine. Wine is sold directly at the estate by prior appointment. If you would like to include a visit in your travel plans, arrange an appointment in advance.

Planning your stay

For travel planning, it helps to distinguish between local features and scheduled events: the architecture, plane tree, washhouse and woodland each offer reasons to choose the destination. For competitions and basketry courses, the specific date matters; for wine sales at the estate, an advance appointment is required. Decide what matters most to you, then tailor your search for a hotel in Préty and your stay accordingly.
