The pond is also a fishing spot. Fishing is permitted for members of the authorized AAPPMA of Saône-et-Loire, as well as anglers with a fishing permit and a vignette from the CHI (Club Halieutique Interdépartemental), the EHGO (Entente Halieutique du Grand Ouest), or the URNE (Union Régionale Nord Est). If fishing is part of your plans, check the fishing regulations before your visit.
A 2025 family activity guide also lists a zip line at the pond in Saillenard as a family activity. Check locally before visiting to see whether it is operating.
The rural Bresse region and communal forest
Saillenard is a rural commune in the Bresse region and has 370 hectares of communal forest. Étang Chanceveau also provides a specific place for a walk. The destination can therefore be considered on two scales: the commune and its rural landscape, and a particular waterside spot that visitors can walk around.
Churches and local history
Saillenard’s building history features two distinct types of church. The temporary Église de paille was built in the town hall courtyard from pine boards covered with straw. It served as a place of worship for about ten years. Construction of the new Church of Saint-Pierre began in 1861 and was completed in 1864; it faces in the opposite direction from the earlier church. The two churches can be distinguished by different features: the Église de paille by its construction and approximate period of use, and Saint-Pierre by its construction dates and orientation relative to the earlier church.
Jean-Maire Putigny is also part of Saillenard’s history: he was born in the commune and fought at Austerlitz, in Russia, and in the final Belgian campaign of 1815. This biographical connection complements the architectural landmarks with a local life story linked to specific historical events.
