Dicy: Church, Art and Hiking
Accommodation in Dicy
Dicy offers several points of interest for your trip: the Église Saint-Sébastien, the Fabuloserie, the annual flea market and the Verger Conservatoire hike. This means culture, an event date and a circular trail are all possible reasons to visit.
Church and furnishings
The Église Saint-Sébastien was a former priory and is documented from 1107 onward. Despite extensive alterations, its nave retains enough elements to reconstruct its original Romanesque design. Its furnishings include a 17th-century pulpit, several retables (altarpieces), paintings and wooden statues. Two perspectives thus come together: the reconstructable Romanesque architectural form and specific works from the furnishings. The furnishings add another period to the building’s history: works such as the 17th-century pulpit accompany the nave’s Romanesque design.
Art at the Fabuloserie
The Fabuloserie offers a different artistic focus. Its permanent exhibition includes works by more than 100 self-taught artists associated with Art brut. Self-taught describes artists who have forged their own artistic path. The Fabuloserie consists of two areas, including the “maison-musée.” Unlike the Église Saint-Sébastien, the focus here is on artists and the collection, not Romanesque architectural history and sacred furnishings.
The flea market and its location
The Arc en Ciel festival committee organizes a flea market in Dicy every year on the village green. The green is surrounded by a river like an island; this setting shapes the market’s location. As a reason to visit, the flea market differs from the church and art collection: each edition has its own dates. If you want to plan your trip around the market, check the dates of the current edition in advance.
Verger Conservatoire hike
The Verger Conservatoire hike follows signposted circular trail No. 109. It crosses the heights of Dicy and offers views of the surrounding area. The starting point is the car park by Dicy’s washhouse. This distinguishes the route number, landscape and starting point: the marker identifies the trail, the heights and views describe its character, and the car park marks the start. Before setting out, check the trail markings and local parking conditions. The circular trail is therefore a reason in its own right for travelers who want to experience Dicy on foot.
Trip ideas and planning
When planning your trip, you can weigh the subject matter and timing separately. The flea market depends on the dates of its specific edition; the circular trail can be identified by its route number and starting point. The church and the Fabuloserie represent different cultural interests. First decide whether an event, architecture and furnishings, art or hiking should shape your stay.
