Accommodation in Buzançais
Buzançais offers several different things to enjoy during a stay: historic buildings, an arboretum, a weekly market, a municipal swimming pool and a cycling route. These places also differ in whether a specific day of the week, the changing seasons or route conditions matter when planning.
Historic buildings and their stories
The Chapelle Saint-Lazare is the oldest monument in Buzançais and the only surviving part of a leper colony. A papal bull issued by Pope Alexander III mentions this colony in 1175.
The Priory of Sainte-Croix de Buzançais was founded between 1419 and 1421, probably as an offshoot of the Priory of Sainte-Croix in Caen. During the French Revolution, it became national property; in 1791, the municipality bought the priory to establish the first town hall of Buzançais there. Its founding and later municipal use therefore belong to different chapters of its history.
The Pavillon des Ducs is the last surviving building of the château commissioned in the 1530s by Philippe Chabot de Brion, Count of Buzançais and Admiral of France. Its doors and windows are decorated with Renaissance motifs. This building thus brings together the history of the château and a specific architectural detail.
Walks and seasonal impressions
The Buzançais Arboretum is a place for walks. As the seasons change, you can admire different foliage and blossoms there. This seasonal change gives each walk its own rhythm: depending on the time of year, different leaves and flowers take centre stage. The arboretum therefore offers a connection with nature that differs from the fixed historical dates associated with the buildings.
Market, swimming pool and cycling route
In 2026, the Buzançais weekly market takes place every Friday on Place du Général de Gaulle. Regional flavours, colours and local expertise shape the market; the individual stalls may vary. If the market is important to your stay, check the date for your travel day in advance.
The municipal swimming pool is supervised to protect visitors. As operating conditions may change, check the current conditions before visiting.
From Buzançais, cycle route Véloroute 49, “La Cyclo Bohème entre Touraine, Berry, Creuse”, provides a cycling link to Argy and its tourist train. If you plan to take this route, check route conditions and signage before setting off.
The different attractions have different planning considerations: in 2026, the weekly market is tied to Fridays, while the arboretum is shaped by the changing seasons. Check route conditions in advance for the cycling link; for the swimming pool, current operating conditions are relevant.
