Things to do in Pouligny-Notre-Dame range from walking trails and water sports to golf, spa facilities and architectural history. Marked paths provide access to the commune’s natural landscapes. Leisure options include the Base de Loisirs de Ligny and activities at the Domaine des Dryades; the Manoir and Église Notre-Dame add a historic dimension.

Hiking and Landscapes

Pouligny-Notre-Dame lies on the slope of the Colline du Fragne, also known as Terrier Randoin. Chestnut, oak, beech and coniferous trees grow on its slopes. The commune describes the 456-metre-high hill as the highest point in the Indre département. Marked routes and paths allow walkers to explore the commune’s natural landscapes. One specific route is hiking trail No. 81, “Sentier Ô Fil de l’Eau”: it is 10.5 kilometres long and rated very easy. Check the route details before setting out.

The 185-kilometre GR® de Pays Sentier des Maîtres Sonneurs is on a different scale. It runs from Nohant in the Indre département, via Châteaumeillant, to Huriel in the Allier département, and passes through Pouligny-Notre-Dame at the Plan d’eau de Ligny. The two trails suit different kinds of planning: No. 81 is rated very easy, while the GR is a longer route crossing several towns and two départements.

Leisure at the Plan d’eau de Ligny

The Base de Loisirs de Ligny covers 3.5 hectares within a 9-hectare leisure area. A cable wakeboarding lift operates on the Plan d’eau de Ligny. You glide across the water on a board while attached to a cable. The leisure area also has a disc golf course. This gives visitors a choice between water sports and disc golf. Check availability before your visit.

The Domaine des Dryades offers a 9-hole leisure golf course with a practice area, putting green and introductory sessions. If golf is part of your travel plans, check in advance whether the course and introductory sessions are available.

Spa and Access

The spa at the Domaine des Dryades covers 1,200 m². Non-resident guests can use the hammam, sauna and full range of treatments; the indoor and outdoor pools are reserved for hotel guests. Access rules therefore distinguish between the spa facilities available to external guests and the pools. Check the current access policy before your visit.

Architectural History of the Manoir and Église Notre-Dame

The Manoir de Pouligny Notre Dame, also known as Le Manoir, was built in the 11th century. It was extensively renovated and altered in the 12th and 17th centuries. Its architectural history thus includes the original construction and two later major phases of alteration.

The Église Notre-Dame also has an architectural history spanning several centuries. The choir, the oldest part of the building, dates to the end of the 12th century. The nave was rebuilt at the beginning of the 15th century; around 1900, Dauvergne added the bell-tower porch. These dates distinguish the oldest part of the building, the later-renewed nave and the porch added later still.
