Chigny-Les-Roses combines a landscape shaped by vineyards, a cliff face and dark green forest with walks, church art and Champagne houses. If you are planning a hotel stay, you can take the area’s highlights into account: paths through forest and vineyards, historic features of the church, and visits to Champagne houses. The visiting arrangements vary both in subject and in the advance arrangements required.

Among vineyards, forest and walking trails

Chigny-Les-Roses is nestled among vineyards beside a cliff face, with dark green forest stretching above. The transition from the vineyards to the cliff face and forest shapes the setting. The Étang de la Pissotte is an idyllic spot for walks.

Two trails also offer different experiences. The Chemin des 5 seigneurs connects the surrounding communes through the forest. The “La Champagne de demain” wine trail passes through Chigny-Les-Roses in a landscape shaped by vineyards. Twelve information panels explain the history of Champagne and new challenges facing winegrowers. The wine trail thus connects the landscape with themes from the history and present-day practice of winegrowing.

Church and local history

Dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the church has Romanesque naves. Its choir dates from the 16th century and features large Flamboyant-style windows. The contrast between the Romanesque naves and the 16th-century choir reveals different architectural features within the same church. It also houses a painting from 1907 bearing the signature “G.Hervé Chigny 1907”.

Another feature of the local heritage is the Fontaine de Mme Pommery: a bust of Mme Pommery stands at the fountain.

Champagne houses and visits

Champagne Guy Dumangin offers a tour of its estate in Chigny-Les-Roses; reservations are requested. The tour presents the history of the house, its underground cellars and its Champagne-making facilities. It concludes with a tasting of the house’s Champagnes.

At Champagne Gardet, experiences and tastings are available by prior appointment only, Monday to Saturday. The cuverie and the viticultural facilities of the Champagne house Gardet are located in Chigny-Les-Roses in a Belle Époque-style building.

At Champagne Lassalle Hanin, visitors can learn about the work of growing grapes and making wine at the estate after getting in touch in advance. Champagne Michel Tixier offers cellar tours with tastings on request; vineyard tours are also possible. The house produces six cuvées, including a 100% Meunier rosé de saignée. When planning, it is worth noting the arrangements required for each: these range from requested reservations and prior contact to visits on request or by appointment.
