Cuchery lies in the Vallée de la Marne near the confluence of the two small streams, Rus de Belval and Rus de la Fréverge. Winegrowing, the listed Église Saint-Maurice and outdoor trails give the village several points of interest. If you are looking for hotels for a stay in Cuchery, consider whether you would like to include a winery visit, historic architecture or walks in your travel plans.

Winegrowing and visitor opportunities

The family behind Champagne Mathieu-Nicolas has been growing vines since the first generation of winegrowers, born in the Marne Valley in 1629. The estate covers 4.8 hectares, spread across five villages. The area figure refers to the estate as a whole, while the five villages describe how it is distributed. Visits to the estate take place occasionally and by reservation; cellar tours are offered. If you plan to visit, arrange your reservation in advance. The family history provides historical context for the winegrowing; for practical planning, however, the occasional visits and the reservation requirement are what matter.

Église Saint-Maurice and local history

The listed Église Saint-Maurice dates from the 12th and 15th centuries and combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural features. Cuchery itself was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1776; the church suffered partial destruction only during the First World War, between 1914 and 1918. This distinction places the disaster that struck the village and the later damage to the church at two different points in history. Because of its status as a historic monument, the church was faithfully rebuilt in accordance with the law of April 17, 1919, under the direction of architects Bernard Haubold, Adolphe Prost and Armand Guéritte. The Marian altar was used by resistance fighters during the 1870 war. The Romanesque and Gothic features are part of the building’s history; the reconstruction tells of a later chapter in the church’s history.

Trails and scenery

Cuchery is located in the Parc naturel régional de la Montagne de Reims. You can take walks on trails in the village; the park has hiking, cycling and mountain biking trails for exploring the area. The choice of activity is clear: walks are directly associated with Cuchery, while cycling and mountain biking offer additional options at the regional level. The Croix du Ballai is a viewpoint at an altitude of 217 meters. It adds a named scenic spot to the trail options and gives your excursion plans a specific destination.

Art, picnics and Orcourt

From May 22 to September 27, 2026, Cuchery hosted Antonin Martineau’s massive wooden installation “En Face” as part of the Vign’Art festival. The installation was part of a walk featuring an artistic discovery, making it a temporary art attraction during the 2026 festival year. Cuchery also has picnic facilities. The hamlet of Orcourt is 800 meters from Cuchery. A 2021 tourist guide described Orcourt as known for its plantings and mentioned nearly 200 varieties of roses. For visitors interested in plants as well as winegrowing and architectural history, this nearby place adds roses to the range of things to explore.
