Gueux between the Circuit, markets and culture

Gueux offers a range of local themes to consider when planning your trip: the Circuit automobile, which is partially protected as a historic monument; markets; cultural events; and activities at Lac de Gueux. Bus route E6 also connects you to the centre of Reims. Event schedules vary: some events take place in a particular month or on a specific day of the week, while other dates may change. So if you’re looking for a hotel in Gueux, it’s helpful to consider both the occasion and your travel dates.

The Circuit automobile de Gueux

The Circuit automobile de Gueux has been partially protected as a historic monument since 7 May 2009. The protected features include the covered Benoist, Wimille and Sommer grandstands, the press grandstand with its boxes along the racetrack, and uncovered grandstands with concrete benches. The site also includes the Lambert timekeeping pavilion, pit garages with a central pavilion, an underpass, a metal scoreboard and the support structure for a fuel distribution tank.

These features show different aspects of the site: grandstands and boxes sit alongside timekeeping facilities, pit garages and technical details. Those interested in historic racetracks and heritage conservation can therefore appreciate the Circuit beyond its spectator areas. Its partial protected status and the variety of protected features offer a tangible way to explore the site’s history without any one structure having to stand for it.

The event calendar also features the Circuit. The Association des Passionnés du Circuit holds a morning event called “Cars and Coffee” on the first Sunday of each month, except in summer. Visitors can share their passion for cars. When planning, bear in mind both the monthly schedule and the summer break.

Markets and regular events

The Marché Paysan takes place on the first Saturday of every month, except in August. Local producers, craftspeople and other partners come together at Ferme Prévost, opposite Place des Fêtes. The Marché des Saveurs is held in May and organised by the Association Escales à Gueux. The Marché de Noël takes place in late November or early December; the Association Escales invites numerous craftspeople to take part.

The markets therefore have different schedules: the Marché Paysan takes place monthly, with a break in August, while the Marché des Saveurs is held in May and the Marché de Noël towards the end of the year. If a market is the main reason for your trip, check the specific event date before travelling. This will help you plan your visit around the market that interests you most.

Cultural events and the Médiathèque

Gueux hosts numerous cultural events throughout the year, including conferences, performances by local artists, author events and exhibitions. The Association Escales à Gueux puts on exhibitions, art workshops and concerts in the church. Event dates may vary, so it’s a good idea to check the latest information before travelling.

The Médiathèque du village is open to both Gueux residents and other visitors. It’s a place to visit for travellers who would also like to explore the local media library during their stay. Meanwhile, cultural events in Gueux range from conferences and author talks to concerts and workshops.

Activities at Lac de Gueux

Clubs hold regular activities at Lac de Gueux. The Association des Pêcheurs du Lac de Gueux regularly organises fishing competitions on the shore. Members of the Club de Modèles Réduits de Gueux demonstrate some of their prototypes at the lake. The activities take different forms: fishing competitions take place on the shore, while prototypes are demonstrated at Lac de Gueux. If you’d like to attend either during your stay, check the relevant dates.

Take the bus to Reims

Bus route E6 takes you from Gueux to the centre of Reims. If you’re thinking of including Reims in your travel plans, this connection is a useful option to bear in mind. As timetables may change, check the E6 service before setting off. This will help you decide whether to focus your stay on Gueux or add a visit to the centre of Reims.
