Venteuil combines Champagne visits with architectural history and protected heathland. If you are looking for a hotel in Venteuil, these different themes can shape your travel plans: Would you like to learn more about Champagne production, see a historic building or spend time in the countryside? Local experiences differ in whether they include a tour, a tasting or both—and whether an appointment is required.

Champagne production and tastings

At Champagne B. Hennequin, tastings are available by appointment for individual visitors and small groups of no more than 15 people. A tour takes you through the estate’s traditional facilities, including the press, fermentation room, riddling racks and cellar. A visit offers the chance to discover different stages of production. Champagne Louis Déhu offers a tour and tasting in German; check the visiting arrangements before you arrive.

Champagne Maurice Grumier offers cellar tours and tastings by appointment only. The estate is rooted in the history of a winemaking family that has been based in Venteuil for twelve generations. This gives the visit a local historical connection, while the cellar tour and tasting offer different insights into the estate.

Champagne du Rédempteur also brings together several stops: the visit includes a small museum, vine grafting, a press, a cellar or fermentation area, and oak barrels, including a carved barrel. Selected cuvées are tasted afterwards. At Champagne Autréau-Lasnot, the focus is on discovering Champagne production at the family-run estate, followed by a tasting of the house’s Champagnes. The experiences range from insights into individual traditional facilities to a tour covering several themes.

Vineyards and views

Venteuil is characterised by south-facing slopes and clay-limestone soils. During a visit to Champagne Autréau-Lasnot, panoramic views of the vineyards below are among the main highlights. The Champagne Louis Déhu estate overlooks a valley, offering impressive views in every season.

The Ferme d’Harnotay offers another vantage point, with a remarkable viewpoint over the Marne Valley. A path also leads from the farm in the direction of the Pâtis de Damery Natura 2000 site. The viewpoint and this path offer two different options for planning your visit: a view over the valley or a connection to the protected area’s landscape.

Heathland and long-distance trail

The Pâtis de Damery Natura 2000 site also includes the commune of Venteuil. The heathland of the Pâtis de Damery is among the best-preserved heathland in the Montagne de Reims. Alongside the vineyards, another defining landscape takes centre stage: the Pâtis, with its ecologically significant heathland. The GR14 long-distance trail crosses the area, or the ZNIEFF designated there, from one end to the other. Together with the path leading from the Ferme d’Harnotay towards the Natura 2000 site, this creates a direct connection between the places mentioned and the surrounding landscape.

Venteuil’s church and history

The Église Sainte-Geneviève is built of millstone. Its solid, four-sided bell tower defines the building and recalls early Romanesque architecture. The church is thought to be Venteuil’s oldest building, though this remains an assumption. Inside is a Pietà, protected as a historic monument since 1966. The architecture and the protected artwork offer two different aspects of a church visit.

The history of winemaking is also part of the area: in 1911, Venteuil was the starting point of unrest among Champagne winegrowers. This historical connection can be considered alongside present-day visits to Champagne houses, without associating the events with any single producer.

For planning your visit, the main thing to note is the appointment requirement: tastings at B. Hennequin are by appointment; at Maurice Grumier, appointments are required for both cellar tours and tastings. The other houses differ in the languages offered, the stops included and the availability of tastings. You can tailor your stay in Venteuil to the specific experiences that interest you.
