Discover Bremondans: Church, Mill and Étang de Breuillez
Accommodation in Bremondans
Bremondans can be explored for trip planning through specific local and landscape themes: the Église de Leugney and the Moulin d’Amans tell different chapters of the area’s history; at the Étang de Breuillez, a designated wetland and trails take centre stage. There is also the circular Sur les Pas de Pergaud hike, which starts at the church and passes by the Étang. You can consider the cultural sites and nature themes separately, or treat the hike as a distinct option with a clearly defined duration.
Historic traces in the church and at the mill
The Église de Leugney is listed as a Monument historique. Its main construction phases date from the 12th, 16th and 18th centuries. These three dates mark different stages in the building’s history, not a single date of construction. Its protected features include numerous statues, among them one of Saint-Sébastien, as well as a credence table for blessed bread. The church thus combines several historic construction phases with specific features.
The Moulin d’Amans in Amans, in Bremondans, is a historic mill documented since 1522 and rebuilt around 1650. Following restoration, remains of three waterwheels have been preserved, one of which powered a vertical sawmill. The dates refer to different events: 1522 marks the earliest documentation, while around 1650 marks the rebuilding. While the Église is defined by its construction phases and features, the Moulin is notable for its documented history and milling technology.
Circular hike and nature at the Étang de Breuillez
Sur les Pas de Pergaud is a moderately difficult 11.8 km circular hike with a stated duration of four hours. It starts at the Église de Leugney and passes by the Étang de Breuillez. It also crosses landscapes that inspired Pergaud’s novels. The distance, difficulty and duration indicate the time and physical effort involved; the starting point and route past the Étang also link it to two of the themes mentioned here. With a stated duration of four hours, it should be considered a separate activity, not a brief stop. Route information may be updated by the responsible authority; check it before setting out.
The Étang de Breuillez is designated an Espace Naturel Sensible and is surrounded by remarkable wet meadows whose flora and fauna are particularly rich in species. Protected plants found there include forest lousewort and summer lady’s-tresses; several notable protected butterfly species are also present. Plant and butterfly sightings may vary by season. The circular hike is moderately difficult, while the path by the Étang consists of compacted gravel and wooden boardwalks.
At the Étang, the Association de l’Étang de Breuillez manages fishing and issues annual or day permits. Night fishing is possible. If you would like to fish, check the local rules in force directly with the Association.
