Les Fourgs: Cross-country skiing, views and cultural heritage
Accommodation in Les Fourgs
Les Fourgs combines winter cross-country ski trails and snowshoeing with routes to viewpoints and places of regional history. This gives you a range of options when planning your trip: you can consider designated trail lengths, take seasonal access to the Belvédère into account, or explore historic sites and their surroundings.
Cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails in winter
In the Les Fourgs–L’Herba Nordic area, Le Mont de l’Herba is designated as a 9.6 km cross-country ski trail. The Grande Traversée du Jura cross-country ski route also passes through Les Fourgs: its section from Les Verrières to Les Fourgs is 13 km long. These two distances refer to different offerings and do not describe a single loop route. You can therefore consider each distance separately when planning.
The Les Fourgs–L’Herba snowshoe area includes seven trails open to hikers, totaling 41 km. At Les Rangs, there is also a 50 m conveyor belt, a snowmaking system and a toboggan run. Snow conditions and seasonal operations may change, so check the conditions for your dates before travelling.
Viewpoints and trails for other seasons
The Belvédère de la Roche Sarrazine offers views of the Plateau d’Arlier, Château de Joux, Larmont, Grand Taureau and Fort Malher. In summer, the viewpoint is accessible on foot and by mountain bike; in winter, it can be reached on snowshoes. Your choice of how to get there therefore also depends on the season. Les Fourgs is also well suited to walks and hikes on foot, as well as mountain biking.
The Stade VTT FFC de la Coupe offers mountain bike loops graded green, blue and red. There are also green, blue and red pump tracks. These details give you an overview of the designated categories without implying any particular riding technique or level of suitability. As seasonal conditions of use may change, check in advance which facilities will be operating during your visit.
Chapel, village history and border trails
The Chapelle du Touriau was inaugurated in 1925. It followed a vow made by the residents of Les Fourgs to build a chapel if the village was spared the devastation of war. The chapel is recognized for its historical and artistic value, particularly its coloured roof shingles arranged in diamond patterns and its cross. From there, you can enjoy sweeping views of Les Fourgs, CrĂŞt du Vourbey and the Swiss mountain range.
The Sentier des Bornes uses information panels to explain the historic boundary between Les Fourgs and Sainte-Croix. The local history also includes cross-border smuggling of goods such as watches, lace, horses and tobacco. The Oratoire de Notre-Dame des Buclés stands on a former processional route linking the village with the Chapelle de Montpetot. Alongside the landscape views, these places offer a historical and religious perspective on Les Fourgs.
Planning seasonal activities
Seasonal leisure activities in Les Fourgs also include disc golf, Explor Games and Cani-Rando. If you would like to include these activities in your trip plans, check which ones are available on your dates. This will help you compare seasonal options with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walking or mountain biking, without combining the activities into a single route or fixed programme.
