Mountain scenery and the source of a river
Haut-Du-Them-Château-Lambert is located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges. At 1,216 metres, the Ballon de Servance is the highest point in the commune and in the Haute-Saône département. The Ognon rises in Château-Lambert. The destination’s geographical profile therefore includes both a prominent high point and the source of a river.
Hiking trails with different focuses
The La Tour du Chaume circular trail starts at the Haut-du-Them fitness trail. It passes through the village to viewpoints and heritage sites at the foot of the Ballon de Servance. It is 7.8 kilometres long. Le Maillebourg starts in Haut-du-Them-Château-Lambert and is a family-friendly hiking trail: it alternates between forest paths and small roads and showcases the village’s natural and cultural heritage at the foot of the Ballon de Servance. The Sentier des écoliers also starts in Haut-du-Them-Château-Lambert. It follows the route that former pupils took to school in Belmont and offers viewpoints over the valley.
When choosing a trail, you can compare specific features: La Tour du Chaume has a stated route length, Le Maillebourg alternates between forest paths and small roads, and the Sentier des écoliers combines the history of the school route with valley views. Check local trail conditions before setting out; the stated distance of 7.8 kilometres may also be subject to change.
Nature and cultural attractions
The Espace Nature Culture is one of four sites in the Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges that welcome visitors free of charge. Check the access conditions before travelling. The 250 m² exhibition explores the natural and cultural riches of the southern Vosges. Activities at the Espace Nature Culture address the environment, sustainable development and the heritage of the Haute-Saône département. The Maison de la Nature at the Espace Nature Culture regularly hosts themed events and activities to raise environmental awareness. Check individual dates if you have a particular programme item in mind.
Village history and former mining
The Musée Départemental Demard de la Montagne presents the history of village life before the major changes brought about by the First World War. Outside the buildings, a path on the hillside introduces forestry and woodworking trades, including charcoal burning, clog making and pit-sawing. Individual displays may change over time. The museum also explores work associated with mining copper, silver-bearing lead and molybdenum. In Château-Lambert, the former copper and silver-bearing lead mines were worked from 1374 to 1768.
The Sentier des écoliers and the museum offer different historical perspectives: the trail relates to the specific school route to Belmont, while the museum explores the history of village life before the First World War. This lets you set a connection to everyday school life in the past alongside a broader history of the village.
