Le Deschaux marks the beginning of the Bresse Jurassienne. Ponds, hikes and village history offer different ways to explore the area during your stay.

Hikes and landscapes

A description published on December 1, 2019, described the hike as 10 km long and straightforward. It passes through the Bresse comtoise to its ponds and offers a lovely view of the large Étang Billedon. The starting point is the car park at Le Deschaux church. Check trail conditions and access locally.

A description dated January 14, 2018, gives the Val d’Orain route as 4 km long. It follows the Orain River, the edge of the forest and the meadows, and crosses the shallow Veuge ford. When water levels are high, you may need to take off your shoes. The starting point is the car park opposite the church; on the way back, the route passes the château grounds and a tree-lined avenue of plane trees before returning to Le Deschaux. Maintenance work or flooding may affect the trails, so check trail conditions and access locally.

The routes differ in both length and scenery: the 10 km hike passes through the Bresse comtoise to ponds and offers a view of Étang Billedon; the 4 km Val d’Orain route follows the river, forest edge and meadows, and crosses a ford.

Faigny Pond

At Faigny Pond, also known as Février, there are tables, benches, barbecue areas and a car park. The municipal facilities may change due to maintenance work; check their condition before your visit. The pond was opened for recreational fishing in 2010. If you plan to fish there, check the local fishing regulations in advance, as they may change.

Local history and dairy farming

The building known as the Tour de Lioutre once stood on the site of the present-day château and served as a hunting meeting place for the Chissey family. After 1700, today’s village center developed along the royal road, which now corresponds to the Dole–Lons route. One account concerns a named building; the other concerns the development of the village center along a transport route.

The former village dairy building now houses the community hall. At the former village fruitière, cow’s milk supplied by farmers was processed into Comté cheese, cream, butter and other products. The farmers’ milk deliveries and its local processing form part of the area’s production history.

Community life and events

The former association La Fruitière was renamed Desch'o Festif in 2026. Previously, La Fruitière organized events including the flower festival and the village flea market. At the 2024 and 2025 editions of the brocante organized by La Fruitière in late July, stalls were set up along the shady château avenue and in the Fabulys car park. If an event is important to your travel dates, check the current schedule before your trip.
