The Chapelle Saint-Romain and two circular routes with different levels of difficulty shape travel planning in Pratz. Route length, duration and difficulty rating provide an initial comparison when choosing your day’s activities. The landscape and cultural heritage around the chapel, as well as a family activity, are also worth considering.

Two circular routes for different time budgets

The La Chapelle Saint-Romain circular route is 4.4 kilometres long, takes 1.5 hours and is rated very easy. Le Tour du Plateau du Lizon is a 27.9-kilometre circular hiking route; it is listed as taking 7.5 hours and is rated very difficult. The two routes therefore differ considerably in the time required and their difficulty ratings. This gives you a concrete point of comparison for planning before you explore the landscape and cultural heritage. Before setting out, check whether route details and access conditions have changed.

Landscape and route features

Le Tour du Plateau du Lizon reaches a maximum elevation of 895 metres. It descends along a narrow path with lovely views over the valley to the Chapelle Saint-Romain. The route’s themes include fauna and flora, history and cultural heritage, and nature. The La Chapelle Saint-Romain circular route provides access to a former marble quarry and leads to the Roche de Vaux viewpoint, where chamois can be found. The routes therefore differ not only in length and difficulty, but also in their landscape and thematic highlights.

The Chapelle Saint-Romain

The Chapelle Saint-Romain is a Romanesque chapel that is believed to date back to the 13th century. It has been classified as a Monument historique since 1931. It stands on a rocky outcrop more than 350 metres above the Bienne valley. This refers to the chapel’s elevation above the valley, so it is a different measure from the maximum elevation of 895 metres listed for Le Tour du Plateau du Lizon.

Pilgrimage and family activity

A pilgrimage takes place at the Chapelle Saint-Romain at Pentecost. If you would like to plan your visit around it, check the current dates locally. Aventure Jeux® – Le Secret de La Roche Bleue is a family activity featuring a treasure hunt and exploration for children aged 6 to 14. Check booking requirements and availability before your trip. This lets you plan separately for an event tied to Pentecost and an activity designed for a clearly specified age group.

Getting to the chapel

To visit the chapel, take the D300 from Pratz. Follow the signs to the site and the chapel. You can park in the large car park at the entrance to the hamlet of Saint-Romain-de-Roche; from there, continue on foot. The journey therefore involves a road leg, parking at the entrance to the hamlet and a final walk. As road and parking conditions may change, check this information before your visit.
