When looking for a hotel in Boutenac, you can choose where to stay based on the themes you want to shape your visit: historic churches, winegrowing and trails through the countryside. Cultural stops include religious buildings with different architectural histories and a medieval fortress that is partly in ruins. For outdoor activities, there are named walking trails with specified distances and elevation gains. The wine landscape and tastings offer further ways to explore Boutenac in line with your travel interests.

Wine and Landscape in Boutenac

The Domaine de Fontsainte shapes the landscape around the village of Boutenac and offers an exceptional panorama. Its vineyard lies at the edge of a 500-hectare pine forest, where it is sheltered from cold northeasterly winds. The Pinède de Boutenac offers many opportunities for walks and hikes. Here, two perspectives on the landscape come together: the vineyard’s connection to the pine forest and the trails through the Pinède. The Château de Saint-Louis also connects winegrowing with the local landscape: its wine-growing estate covers 120 hectares in the hills of Boutenac, and the château has 11 grape varieties.

At Château La Voulte Gasparets, there is a wine cellar where visitors can taste wines and talk with the winemaker. Check the arrangements for visits in advance. Together, these experiences show different sides of this wine-growing area: the landscape around the vineyards, the size of a wine-growing estate, and the opportunity to taste wines and talk with the winemaker.

Walking Trails and Views

The Circuit des Combes par la Chapelle is an easy circular hike starting in Boutenac. The route is 7.3 kilometers long and has 190 meters of elevation gain. After passing two vineyards, the ascent follows a path lined with holm oaks and pines into the Pinède. La Boucle des Terroirs is another easy walking route in Boutenac: it is 10.5 kilometers long, has 271 meters of elevation gain, and takes about three hours. It starts at the Château de Boutenac and offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape along the way. When comparing the two hikes, the main points to consider are the length, elevation gain and approximate walking time for La Boucle. Check the route conditions before setting out.

Churches and Historic Buildings

The Église Saint-Martin de Gasparets was listed as a Monument historique by decree dated April 27, 1948. Its nave has a barrel vault with a broken profile; the choir, which is at a lower level, is also vaulted. The Église Saint-Mamès offers different architectural and historical points of interest: it dates from the 12th century and was expanded in 1891 with two side aisles, two altars and eight new stained-glass windows.

The furnishings of the Église Saint-Mamès include a baptismal font and a white marble supporting column. Both elements originally came from an abacus of a capital and an altar base, respectively. The abacus of the capital and the altar base have been classified as protected objects since 1973. The two churches also differ in the details to look out for if you are interested in cultural history: at Saint-Martin, the focus is on the vault’s shape and the layout of the interior; at Saint-Mamès, it is on the history of the expansion and the historic objects.

Chapelle Saint-Siméon and Château de Boutenac

The Chapelle Saint-Siméon is associated with a hermit who lived in the Massif de Boutenac above the cultivated land. A procession takes place every year on the first Tuesday in August. If you want to plan your trip around it, check the local arrangements in advance. The Château de Boutenac is a partly ruined medieval fortress built to defend against attacks. The chapel and fortress therefore represent two different ways of exploring the village’s history: the religious tradition surrounding Saint-Siméon and medieval defensive architecture.
