Nébias: Discover hiking and historic sites
Accommodation in Nébias
In Nébias, hiking and historic sites can be combined as focal points of a stay. The Sentier Nature offers a route with a stated distance and average duration; the Sentier du Labyrinthe Vert is shaped by its course and the surrounding landscape. There is also a circuit of basins and washhouses, as well as individual historic sites. You can therefore plan your visit around hiking time, natural and geological features, or cultural and historical stops.
Hiking trails in Nébias
The Sentier Nature in Nébias is 9 km long; its average duration is 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours. This range gives you a concrete time frame for planning your day and indicates that the route is a hike lasting several hours. The trail also passes a former observation post from the Second World War. This makes it possible to combine hiking with a historical point of interest on the same route.
The Sentier du Labyrinthe Vert starts and ends in Nébias and leads to the Grand Lapiaz, a limestone formation shaped by chemical erosion. The route passes through distinctive rocky terrain and a forest of boxwood and oak trees, with several clearings in the forest. If you take geological formations and woodland scenery into account when choosing a route, both the named destination and the features along the way are relevant. Starting and ending in Nébias also provides a clear sense of location.
The Cami Salvatge is a slightly longer alternative to the Sentier du Labyrinthe Vert. Orange markings indicate the route; 500 metres later, it rejoins the Sentier du Labyrinthe Vert. In summer, the Sentier du Labyrinthe Vert crosses grazing land. If you encounter herds, stay calm, keep dogs on a leash and go around the herds.
Historic sites and trail destinations
At the church spring, an architectural detail and former uses come together. The trough is octagonal and bears an engraving with the year 1820. In the past, the spring was a meeting place for villagers and served as a watering place for livestock. Its shape and engraving can therefore be considered alongside its former role in village life. The Belvédère des Mirailles is also one of the places of interest in Nébias.
The discovery trail of the basins and washhouses of Nébias and Lafage was inaugurated during the 2024 European Heritage Days. If you plan to take the trail, check its current condition before travelling. A hiking trail leads from the car park above Chemin des Ormeaux in Nébias towards an old windmill. Another hiking trail leads towards a ruin called Borde de Dominique.
