Saint-Pierre-Sur-Mer offers several distinct reasons to visit: its large sandy beach, Étang de Pissevache, the landscapes of the Massif de la Clape, as well as cycling opportunities and seasonal markets and events.

Coast, Lagoon and Wildlife Watching

Étang de Pissevache lies between the Clape and the sea. Seawater enters the lagoon through a natural channel; underground springs in the massif and the Aude River supply fresh water. The coast of Saint-Pierre-la-Mer and Étang de Pissevache are considered areas of exceptional biodiversity in the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park. The lagoon is particularly interesting for wildlife photography because of its birdwatching opportunities: waders, waterfowl and other birds settle there at different times of the year. This seasonal variation is part of observing nature at the Étang.

Rocher de la Vallière juts out into the sea and divides the large sandy beach, which stretches as far as Cabanes-de-Fleury. According to local tradition, Louis XIV is said to have named the rock in honor of his mistress. The protected Massif de la Clape is directly accessible from Saint-Pierre-la-Mer and offers sea views.

Cycling in the Clape and on La Littorale

There are 135 kilometers of signposted mountain-bike trails between Saint-Pierre-la-Mer and Fleury d’Aude, running through the Massif de la Clape. In summer, fire-risk closures may affect access to these trails, so check the current conditions before a summer ride. Another option is the La Littorale cycling route: it runs from Saint-Pierre-la-Mer to Narbonne-Plage and continues toward Gruissan and Narbonne. Conditions on La Littorale may vary from place to place; check them before setting out.

Sports and Seasonal Events

The sandy Espace Beach venue in Saint-Pierre-la-Mer is intended for physical and sporting activities for young people; various tournaments and other events are held there during the season. If you want to plan your trip around a particular tournament, check the specific dates in advance. Nearby, Domaine de l’Oustalet offers pony rides year-round for children aged two to ten. The schedules differ: tournaments and other events at Espace Beach are seasonal, while pony rides are available year-round.

Markets Throughout the Year

The seasonal schedule is also worth bearing in mind when it comes to the markets. During the season, Saint-Pierre-la-Mer’s open-air market has more than 200 vendors every morning. If you plan to visit the market, check the dates and schedule before your trip. Marché des Embruns is a different kind of event: its 2026 summer edition featured 40 colorful chalets, where vendors and craftspeople set up their stalls. Check the dates again for future editions.
